Good tips for our older puppers
Senior Dogs and Colder Weather ❄️
“Brrrrrrrrrrrr, has the colder season come early? I feel the cold more easily now and I need some extra warmth.”
As you dog gets older, they begin to feel the cold a lot more. It’s not as easy for them to regulate their body temperature. The energy your dog will use trying to stay warm on a colder day will make them more predisposed to other diseases. Helping keep your dog’s body temperature up will help minimise joint and muscle stiffness and help ward of other diseases as well. If your dog spends time outdoors during the colder months they will likely need a coat to help keep them warm, a nice cosy bed and more time indoors.
Closely monitor your dog’s environmental temperature and watch for signs of your dog being cold such as shivering or shaking, whining, signs of anxiousness, seeking places to shelter, hunched posture with tucked tail or lifting one paw off the ground are all signs of discomfort.
Make sure you dry your dog down if wet, provide a jacket or a sweater, a nice cosy warm bed and plenty of indoor time beside the fire or the heater. ❤️
