Cat savvy carer needed –

Unnamed boy and girl
For 6 long years this is how these two cats lived , padlocked in a cage barely big enough for a litter tray , they have not known any real love , nor have they known a comfy bed and they have not been interacted with much at all .
Both need a super cat savvy person to work on them to the point of being adoption ready , they will need patience , understanding and lots of love.
Someone who is able to read body language would be handy as fear sometimes causes aggression .
The ginger girl is super scared but friendly
The tabby male is confused but trying to be nice
These two deserved so much better than 6 years in a cage so please help us find a carer for them and let’s change their lives forever
They do not need to go out on foster together as the padlocked cages were in different ends of the shed .

If you can open your heart and home to them together or separately, please follow the link below to the fostering application form

This cat's owner passed away and the family rushed her to the vet to be put down!!! 😢 She is 18, so won't live a lot longer. But she deserves to be loved for that time. Do you know someone who can take her in?

24/05/2022

Cats can live a long life. (They may howl a bit as they get older.) But they're just a loving.

12/05/2022

With the current bad weather people are more likely to find sick and or injured animals. What should you do if you find kittens?

Are you the special person? Perhaps in between cats right now.

Slash was surrendered to a vet clinic by his owners for euthanisia as he needed life saving surgery for being blocked and had been unable to p*e for an entire week .
Slash will need to remain on a special urinary diet to avoid him blocking again and he needs a home without other animals . Slash does love his humans though and endless smooches will ensue .
Slash deserves that chance of happiness after all he has been through so please share his gorgeous face out there and help us find someone to love him until his forever home comes along . Being a solo kitty we realise he is harder to place as most people that foster have fur babies of their own already but we know there is someone special out there for Slash both as a carer and as a forever home .
If you can open your heart and home to Slash and have no other fur babies please fill out the fostering carers application below

BFF Doors have had to close

I do not often get up on my soap box but tonight I must

This kitten season is by far the worst we have ever seen and its getting incredibly difficult behind the scenes of rescue, we are all overflowing at the seams and desperate to fit in one more litter , one more cat , one more life to save .

We are exhausted both mentally and physically, our vet bills are exploding , and we are frustrated beyond belief that we never seem to make a dent .

We see the pound lists every day, we are emailed and tagged to put a save on some of those due to meet their fate at the end of the green needle as the pounds are way beyond capacity .

Let’s not be naïve to the fact that you think kittens will be safe cause they are young and cute as it doesn’t matter on the age, the s*x or the breed they are all put to sleep when they do not get a save. This isn’t the fault of the pounds it’s the fault of irresponsible owners . This is the harsh reality of kitten season .

The rental crisis has caused an explosion of cats being left behind when they move out as cant find pet friendly rentals or what we are seeing a lot of of is cats being dumped in carriers in shopping centres , peoples yards or at vet clinics . I had 7 different vet clinics call me this week to ask to assist with a combined 46 cats handed to them from being abandoned. The pound lists of those due for euthanasia is extensive , the emails for surrenders endless .

Sadly BFF have had to close the doors to intakes as of this weekend as we hit an all-time high of 269 cats in care this month .

I do not think people understand how emotionally difficult it is for us to say no but there comes a point where you have to .

Limited carers
Limited food and litter
Limited funds

These all add up to where it means we have we have to bring ourselves to say no as simply we cannot help.

Every rescue is beyond capacity and every pound overflowing .

It’s a crappy ass time to be a cat .

This month has been one of the most difficult I have faced in all my years of doing this , I have never seen so many surrenders or had so many calls from vets and pounds and while we have taken in a lot of cats, we cannot help them all sadly .

This is emotionally draining behind the scenes .

Pounds and vets you usually work with to save as many as possible you have to say no too .
People trying to do the right thing by a cat the neighbours left behind you have to say no too and that is not fair as they are just trying to help and do the right thing .
Owners trying to surrender you have to say no to often leads to abuse “ we have tried everywhere else and you are our last option its your fault I will have to take it to be put to sleep “ or the joyful threats “ I will just have to turn it loose and make it a stray or abandon it as you wont help” .

We try and console ourselves knowing so many in care are safe and that we need to focus on the ones we have saved and try to not dwell on those we cannot help but It is taxing on the soul .

Christmas is meant to be a joyous time of year but this year with a heavy heart we have to close the doors for intakes right now.

How can you help ?

I have a soft spot for Errol, and would take him if I could. He has been in care 6 years because he is a bit shy. He needs another (non-dominant) cat in the the house. Would you love a shy cat who will lie on your lap for cuddles, sleep on your bed, and even follow you around - all once he comes to trust you?

I wish I had one of these for my cats when they were younger!

There are many amazing quilts, cards, paintings, pet packs, kids clothes, cushions, and all sorts of things. You have another week to bid. (I had thought it was just last week).

PLEASE READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR OUR AUCTION PRIOR TO BIDDING.

Terms and Conditions of Auction:

Best Friends Felines 2021 Mid Year Craft Auction begins at 7pm on Sunday 25th of July 2021 and will close 7pm SHARP Sunday 8th of August 2021.
Please make your bid by commenting the amount you wish to offer for the item pictured, ensuring it is higher than the previous bid. Any bids commented before the official start time will be removed for ease of organisation. Some items will have a reserve placed on them, please ensure you bid above the set reserve or the bid will be void.

We will contact all winners by tagging them in the items comments at the end of the auction and asking them to PM the page to arrange their winning items. As tags do not always notify the winner, we ask if you have made a bid on an item that you also check back after the auction is closed to see if you are the highest bidder.

The items that are being auctioned will be granted to the person with the HIGHEST bid at EXACTLY 7pm Sunday 8th of August 2021. NO FURTHER BIDS will be accepted after this time and the organisers decision is final.
Auction is open to AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS aged 18 and over only due to quarantine restrictions and postage costs.

When you have seen your name announced as the winner of an item/s please send a PRIVATE MESSAGE to this page with the items you won, your full name, postal address and phone number so that we can arrange postage/pick up of your item/s .

PLEASE NOTE! Any items that are required to be posted will incur an average postage cost of between $5- $30+ so you will need to consider that in your budget when bidding on item/s. Some large items may be marked as pick up only and you will need to be able to collect these from Kallangur in Brisbane or courier transport can be organised at the buyers expense. Collection will need to be arranged in conjunction with any current COVID-19 restrictions.

If you are not a Brisbane resident, post may be higher due to increasing postage costs imposed around COVID-19.
If possible, you are welcome to arrange a collection day and time for your item/s if you are nearby and are willing to pick up your item/s.

Full payment will need to be deposited for your item within 5 days of notification that you have placed the winning bid or your item will be offered to the next highest bidder. Please note NO further payments will be accepted after Sunday the 22nd of August 2021 and all items not paid for will go towards our next fundraising event. All paid for items that are not collected by September the 5th will be repurposed by Best Friends Felines for future fundraisers.
