I was looking to source 3 separate bloodlines of Australorp and The Hillview Hatch had a stunning flock with a great range of colouring.
I ordered eggs to be express posted all the way to Broome, WA where I have previously had eggs taken by quarantine multiple times. The Hillview Hatch eggs arrived in great time and in excellent condition!
We hatched each colour of black, blue and my personal favourite splash! Though the blue is very striking, even as little 4 week old partially feathered chicks. I feel they’ll be a tight contender as my new favourite colour.
I am so proud to offer new bloodlines to our small rural town of Broome and offer people the chance to safely hatch out their own healthy chicks via broody hen, knowing their roosters and hens came from a very reputable breeder with beautiful lines.
Communicating with The Hillview Hatch has been equally as lovely and you can tell they’re passionate about what they do.
We have relocated our little chicks to their big chick brooder in preparation for our Australorp (three separate bloodlines), Brahma and Duckling hatch due in a few days time.
In this pen, we have lovely little Blue and Gold Laced Wyandottes, Australian Cream Legbar, Welsummers and a single Plymouth Rock.
It has been constant zoomies for the last half hour!
My unconfirmed suspected cockerels.. The boys are always the friendliest, cheekiest little characters!
Roosters are usually an unwanted outcome for customers, with people preferring sexed pullets over unsexed chicks. The hatch rate of pullet to cockerel can often be 50/50. But did you know, a rooster plays a crucial role in your flock.
These (possible) beautiful Marans boys when bred with a blue egg laying hen will produce Olive Egger offspring! How amazing is that!
Roosters also protect their flock often with their life, keep constant watch and warn of aerial and ground predators, break up pecking-order squabbles between the ladies and find tidbits for the girls to eat before eating for themselves. And let’s not forget the fertile eggs allowing for your own naturally raised chicks!
So if your area allows it, don’t disregard a beautiful rooster or consider one as an instant negative outcome.
Grubbies Mealworms continue to be a favourite in our household. They are a great bonding tool for your new flock and existing, as well as full of protein and health benefits when given as a treat.
They are available for $14.95 @ www.heidishatchery.com.au
Featuring our beautiful little blue egg laying Araucana chicks. Soon to be sexed and priced at pullet prices so grab some whilst still at day-old pricing.
We have beautiful little Lucky Dip Chicks still available!
We have Black Copper Marans and Cuckoo Marans that will lay rich dark brown eggs as well as Plymouth Rock that have a lovely temperament and lay cream eggs. These chicks are approaching two weeks of age. They are full of life and adventure!
Excuse their dirty toes- they have been thoroughly enjoying the dust bath area in their brooder, digging and scratching in the garden dirt we have added this week for stimulation and practicing their skills.
