💔 CAWI / Byron Dog Rescue is facing one of the hardest moments in our 22 year history. We Never Thought We’d Have to Write This…. We Must Relocate the shelter — Immediately!
Due to complaints about barking at our current shelter, we are facing potential fines of $30,000 if barking continues. Dogs do bark at times, we can’t stop all barking. As a small non-for-profit rescue, that kind of penalty could shut our doors forever. Some of our neighbours have been incredibly kind and supportive, which we truly appreciate.
🐾 Our Dogs Deserve Better
Dogs arrive at our rescue frightened, confused, needing love. They find safety and healing here. They find their second chance here. And now our dogs — the ones who’ve already been through so much — are at risk of losing the safe place they rely on. We help our local community in times of need for emergency temporary shelter for their dog for such cases as Domestic Violence or emergency hospital admissions. We cannot lose that.
Please be assured, whilst we go through this transition, we will continue to help people rehome their dogs via private rehoming (which already make up a number of our existing adoptions), but we cannot take in any surrendered dogs at this stage. We will continue support you as much as we can during this transition.
A Fundraising Appeal will be launched shortly, once we have sold our existing premises. Only then will we be in a position to start our search for a suitable place to relocate the shelter to and gauge what shortfall we may have. In the meantime, you can support us by donating via our website, shopping or volunteering at our Op shop, which will remain open.
