We are better educated in using positive methods to train animals. It is time to stop using coercive methods.
Positive training is not about shoving food into the dog's mouth in order to get behaviour it's about rewarding behaviour we would like the dog to repeat.

There are good and bad trainers in all disciplines it is a matter of finding the right trainer and researching before signing up. You are the guardian of your dog's welfare.

Good News Sam has found a lovely home, he will be enjoying two walks on the nearby beach every day and will have full charge of his new owners who are retired and have loads of love to give this gorgeous dog. Thank you to all those who contacted me, and shared posts.

Sam an 8-year-old Border Collie urgently needs a new home. He is good with children, cats and other dogs. The owner has had to find employment in FIFO and has nobody to help with Sam.
Sam is located in Rockingham.

Dogs certainly do learn from one another as can be seen, Gypsy the GSP has caught on that jumping up on fallen trees is so much fun and you can see even further than when on the ground.
Caught Baci as he was jumping on, Sprite is happier on the lower part of fallen trees.

What most people expect out of their dogs is calmness, attention, and control when walking. They continue to practice all the areas that cause arousal, excitement and no-response to commands.

If you don't change what you expose your dog to you will continue to get poor behaviour and bad manners. Ask yourself, why fail to change what I am doing yet continue to expect a different outcome. The answer is right there.

Early spring is when snakes are becoming more active. Please keep in mind, check with your vet to make sure they have snake anti-venom in stock, most hills vets do but some suburban vets don't, time is vital to save a pet's life.

We are assisting with a segment tonight for Channel Ten news, after a dog suffered a snake bite in Mindarie this week . Dog is ok I believe , but please with these sporadic warm bursts in the lead up to spring ,

🐍 Please keep an eye out on your pets for the
below symptoms listed in the picture.

🐍 Research your nearest snake avoidance training
course and enrol your dog/s.

🐍 Clean up your gardens.
Cut back all long grass, stack wood or building
materials on pallets, hedge under bushes to
create clearance as it discourages snakes to
hang around as it takes away their cover.

🐍 Snakes enter your property looking for food ,
One python or venomous snake can eat 50-150
rodents per spring / summer and that stops
10,000-15,000 rodents being reproduced over
the next 12 months.

I try to always encourage people to keep snakes
local for this purpose, but we are always happy
to relocate animals for people and pet safety.

If you remove the scent of what they’re looking
for to eat ….. you’ll most likely have no issues
with snakes . Use first generation rat baits or
a licensed pest controller who does, to treat
rodents as these baits don’t affect our wildlife.

But if you have a snake that’s not defensive and
keeps away from pets and humans, maybe think
about the benefits it provides for free, keeping
our urban spaces, gardens and sheds free from
rodents.

🐍 Create log and rock stacks for reptile habitats
In garden beds or away from the house and put
water bowls in your garden to keep wildlife
away from verandahs and the house .

Snake and reptiles live in most suburbs, we
have to learn to live around them like they do
with us.

🐍 Contact or follow your local snake catcher for
advice and have their number in your contacts
list.

🐍 Check your pet insurance covers snake bites
and treatment costs , not all of them do and
antivenom treatment costs $2500-$8500 plus
depending on the care they need afterwards.

🐍 Talk with your family members over dinner what
to do if they see a snake , if they suspect a pets
been bitten and what to do ?
It should be a yearly conversation we have in
the lead up to spring , what to do if we have a
snake at our house ?

🐍 If your pets are bitten . Get everyone inside and
get to your vet ASAP keeping your pet as still as
possible on the way . Don’t catch the snake as
you’ll most likely get bitten too , it’s
identification doesn’t matter when you need to
get your pet to the vet , call a catcher from the
vets and we can come and sort it out while
you’re out . Don’t squeeze the bite site etc
Calm your pet and keep it still.
