URATED: Ruefus has found his forever people.

Ruefus is in need of a new home. He only has a space in temporary care for a short while longer. Ruefus can get along with other dogs with slow introduction and prefers their company off lead on acreage where he can run.
Ideally he would love a human to himself. Check out this 9 year old Border Collie's profile on our website at www.barrc.info where you can apply to adopt.

It has taken us a few years of persisting to get to this point so we are very glad to see the upgrades starting to happen. Thankyou to all that have helped us along the way. We plan to keep on working towards having our Park becoming a pawsome place to be.🐾🐾

🐶🐶🐶
As part of the Withers Placemaking Project, earthworks have started this week to kick off upgrades to the John Banks Memorial Dog Park.

The Parade Road dog park is closed today and Wednesday for the works, which will see the area levelled to improve safety and access for our community.

Further upgrades over the coming months will include fencing, a new small dog area and airlocks, seating shelters and relocation of the park’s drink fountain.

These exciting upgrades are the result of successful consultation sessions with our Withers community as part of the placemaking project, which is funded by a $60,000 grant from the South West Development Commission.

Upgrades to this popular dog park are just the latest improvements in the area with the Withers Regional Renewal Project – a collaboration between the City of Bunbury and the State Government – moving ahead.

We apologise for any inconvenience during works and thank our community for their understanding as we complete these important upgrades for our residents – both human and furry.

PARK CLOSURE - IMPORTANT NOTICE PLEASE READ:
Please be advised John Banks Memorial Dog Park will need to be closed to the public on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th February 2024. Earthworks to level the ground will be occurring to improve safety and accessibility in the area. The area will have restricted public access on these days to allow for heavy machinery onsite, which means it will be unsafe for your furry companions. Thanks for your understanding and patience. The Dog Park Team.

An update for you on progress:

You may have noticed that some work has begun at the dog park. The fencing contractor has been able to fit us in rather suddenly and has commenced work on the new small dog enclosed area, with the aim to complete the work over the next few weeks.

The City of Bunbury hope to have an overall upgrade project timeline that they can share with us all via a Withers Newsletter by mid-February.

We apologise for any disruption but are sure that you are as excited as we are to see Progress happening at the park.

Please don’t hesitate to message this page directly if there’s any questions that we can help you with.

🐶 DOG CONTROL AREAS REVIEW 🐶

The City is once again reviewing Bunbury’s dog control areas and is asking our community – both dog owners and non-dog owners – to provide feedback.

It is important the City provides spaces for our residents to exercise their pooches while also providing dog-free zones to help protect our natural habitat and wildlife, allowing our entire community to be able to safely enjoy our beautiful open spaces and facilities.

Dogs are allowed on-leash in most public places within the city, however residents should refer to the City’s Dog Control Areas Map (below) for prohibited and off-lead areas.

As part of a review, the City has launched a survey to obtain feedback from the community to help understand the needs of both dog owners and non-dog owners.

The last review was done by the City in 2019 and resulted in positive changes such as an additional dog off-leash area, the supply of dog bag dispensers and clearer signage. This latest review is being undertaken in line with requirements under the Dog Act 1976.

The City has already enlisted its Co-Design Access Panel as part of the feedback process to also ensure our dog areas are inclusive and accessible to the best of our ability.

Further, the popular John Banks Memorial Dog Park forms an important part of this review however improvements and possible expansions are set to be considered once fully scoped in the 2024-25 year.

It is also important to note, the City currently does not have projected budget for infrastructure upgrades as part of this review, but community feedback is likely to inform future plans.

The City will roll out other engagement opportunities in the coming months – so watch this space!

The survey can be completed online below or in person at our Administration Building by 14 January 2024.

PLEASE HELP by FOSTERING TODAY

We have so many dogs on our waitlists needing your help. By fostering a dog in your home, you help create space for another dog to be saved. Monica, Kali and Roggie are waiting for someone to help them. Not all of our dogs need pet free households, though these three would benefit from socialising and training before placing with other dogs in the home.

Kali is strong on lead and can get over excited on her walks and at play time. She is a big smooch and loves her cuddles.
Roggie is a strong lad who loves his people. He has met other dogs and wants to play but forgets his strength from time to time. He also loves to chew.
Monica is a sweetheart who enjoys play time and a good run. She needs routine and a little time to decompress from the kennels.

Fostering is FREE. Everything you need is provided by BARRC. If you would like more information, please contact us via [email protected] There is absolutely no obligation, our carers choose the dog they feel will be the best match for their family and lifestyle.

The committee have taken a break after our very successful Dogwalk, but WE ARE BACK and can hint at some great news. After some recent meetings with the appropriate Bunbury folk, it looks like we have some decent funds coming our way. We walked the Park again last week and measured up for a second adjacent area. Stay tuned dog folk - expect an update soon.🐾🐾
