Not chicken related, but we wanted our chicken customers to be first to have pick of our goats that we have for sale this year. After been asked about them by a few. Breeds are Saanen and Toggenburg.

Another big delivery to a local egg producer🥚🥚🥚 Even though we do big number deliveries to egg suppliers, still really love helping setup and give advice to first time chicken owners with the products we stock and chooks at different ages. Reminds me of finishing off the chicken coop as a kid with Dad and driving out to pick up chooks for our new coop,

🐓Chickens that lay on average 25 cartons of eggs a year, at $5 a carton, thats $125 of eggs a year from 1 Chicken. Thats a pretty good return on a pet that cost a quarter of the price. All while taking care of kitchen scraps and over grown grassed areas just to name a few of the pros. Unless your as handsome as Kyan. He thought this video was about him. 👨🏾‍🌾🤣

Generally our Isa Browns are expected to lay for 2-3 years with a peak period of egg production during their first year. Thats 320 eggs for the first year. However, their actual laying capacity can depend on various factors such as diet, environment and health.

An easy way to give your chickens access to feed and water while going away over Easter. Or wanting a cool project to build with the kids this holiday. Using our feeders and drinking cups available on our website https://southwestchooks.com.au/. Then attaching them to any bucket or in this case recycle bin. One bin is for feed, the other for water.

With the cooler month starting to set in, there are a few thing you can do to increase and help your chickens stay comfortable and not completely stop laying eggs.🥚🥚. The main one we do is increase protein content of feed.

Your typical layer feed contains around 16% protein, which is fine when the weather is warm and given plenty of access for them to forage for bugs and worms. As it cools down energy then goes into keeping themselves warm. Which reduces or stops egg production. Increasing protein content to 18-20% we find helps egg production during the colder months.

You may see my boy Kyan being featured a few times in our videos. About 4 years ago i was surprised with him as a birthday gift. After getting the playful puppy hunting instinct out of him he has been so good around all the chooks and animals. He is the resident working farm dog at least looks like he works in all his photos. He loves coming for drives when we head downsouth for our chicken deliveries especially if there is dog beach stop off.
