So many blogs, articles, websites and Facebook posts encourage people to socialise their puppies using food to "give the dog the feel good factor"! Owners/guardians are instructed to take their puppies to novel places and expose them to various things such as people, cars, bikes, children, other dogs, other animals and the list goes on. The advice given is to take some food along or toys to make it a "fun" and "positive" experience.

While it is important our puppies and dogs see these things and habituate to them, we need to be mindful about how we do this. Feeding food and giving praise for looking at these things is NOT socialisation. It is sensitisation! We are actually drawing attention to these things, telling our puppies and dogs that these things mean something! What we should be aiming for is the puppy to observe these things and learn that these things are of "no consequence" and that they can be ignored.

Do keep the trips short
Do move your puppy away if they show signs of uncertainty or fear
Do follow your puppy if they indicate they want to leave
Don't expose them to too many new things at once
Don't let people approach your puppy - let your puppy choose whether they wish to interact

“Arlo” is our last litter F1b groodle pup available. If you are looking for a groodle boy who’s well socialized, happy spending time with you, and who you want to be dedicated just to you, then this little fellow is your pup. Mum is a cream groodle and dad is a red standard poodle. We don’t think he’ll grow to full size Groodle. He’s fun, obedient, easy to train, and ideal for someone who is home most of the time and who’d love a dog they can take anywhere 💕💕. Please share to help us find his people 🐾🐾

Morning!!! Arlo here 🥳. I want to tell you a bit about me ……. I might be the smallest of the litter but I reckon I’m the sassiest - don’t tell anyone ‘cause I like to trick ‘em 😜. I’m confident and self-assured. My favorite things are running around the house with toys, playing fetch, snacking (though sometimes I’m too busy for that), and snoozing and cuddling - but only when I run out of PLAY. I’ll sleep on the bed all night right next to you and cling to you like a Koala as you race me outside first thing for the toilet. I’m a pocket rocket and a cuddly little bear. The humans don’t know if I’ll grow big and my sister’s new mum said my paws are little so maybe I won’t grow as big, but I don’t care because I’m loving life 🐾. I’m available to adopt a human but only if I think you’re as loveable, fun, and cute as me. Message me if you’d like to meet up.

For all our new pawparents out there. Ice cubes are a great idea to keep the little ones entertained till they melt. Arlo’s mum is 3 and still chews on them. 😆
