HEAT STROKE WARNING - HOW TO KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE ☀️🥵🐾

Temperatures are soaring in the Bundaberg region today, please be extra vigilant with your pets and be aware of how the heat can effect them.

Heat stroke is a serious medical emergency, which can result in seizures, heart issues and even death.

We've got some tips to keep your pets cool and safe below:

☂️ SHADE- Keep your pets inside if possible, or ensure they have access to adequate shade throughout the day

💧 WATER - This is essential, we recommend putting some extra water bowls around and ensure your pet cannot knock them over or spill them, leaving them without access

🐾 HOT SURFACES - Avoid walking your pet in the middle of the day and always place your palm on the ground for a few seconds to assess if it is too hot for your pets paws, which can burn easily

✂️ GROOMING - If your pet has long, thick hair we recommend getting them groomed to remove excess hair and keep them cooler in the extreme heat

🚗 HOT CARS - Never leave your pet inside a locked car, temperatures can soar in a matter of minutes, putting your pets life at risk

🏥 SEEK HELP ASAP - If your pet shows any of the below signs of heat stroke, get them into our vet hospital ASAP, time is crucial in the outcome of heat stroke cases and your pets life could depend on it

SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE:

- Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
- Dehydration (dry nose, visible tiredness and sunken eyes)
- Excessive drooling
- Fever
- Bright red, grey, purple, or bluish gums
- Rapid pulse
- Muscle tremors
- Lethargy or weakness
- Vomiting or diarrhoea
- Dizziness or trouble walking
