With the breeding season half way through many birds are now entering the moult phase.
During this time a bird will shed all of its old father , gradually over a few weeks replacing them with new ones.

the moult is an especially taxing time on a birds immune system as it takes a lot of energy to grow new feathers. A good supply of vitamins and minerals is essential for maintaining healthy immune system and supporting the growth of the new plumage.

Freshwater should be provided daily and in the current heat water may need to be checked multi times a day to ensure it is not getting too hot for your feathered friends.

We have some absolutely stunning hand raised Sun Conure here at Nicks Pet Needs! These baby’s are around 5 months old and are set for their forever homes. Sun Conures have personalities as bright as their feathers and make amazing pets and will quickly become your best friend. They are a larger parrot species and these two need someone with a bit of bird experience and understanding of boundaries to thrive in their new home environment. They are handled every day in store by our staff and have a soft spot for sunflower seeds! Please note these birds are incredibly loud but don’t let that deter you! ☀️☀️☀️

In store right now we have two gorgeous sand monitors (Varanus gouldii)! These guys get up to a size of around 160cm and make a great pet for experienced reptile keepers. 🦎

We have started tong feeding, and letting them around our hands so they get used to human interaction, in preparation for their new home. Staff in store are very happy to discuss housing requirements and husbandry needs with you if you have any questions. 😁

*2024 Local Business Winner!*

Wow! I can’t believe it….. We won the 2024 Local Business Award for Outstanding Pet Care!

I was taken aback and humbled when I received word regarding our nomination and the fact that we had made it to the finalist stage.

Myself and the team here were very excited to be a part of this acknowledgment! I was not expecting us to be called forward as the winner and was frankly overcome with emotion. My acceptance speech last night was tiny and I feel I want to do a better job of it here!

I would like to thank my wonderful Grandparents Helen and Jack - who without them NPN would never have existed. If it wasn’t for their passion, belief and hardworking attitude none of this would ever have happened.

I need to thank my amazing team both present and past. Everyone who has worked here or does still work here has made such an incredible impact. Without everyones hard work, passion and integrity the shop would never have grown to this point. I am so grateful for everything that you all do!

To my stepfather Andrew Mason , whom without his advice and input would have never gotten the shop up and going properly. Without you the original fish tank rack would have possibly never happened!

To my Mum, Beth Fillod, for being so supportive and excited about the store!

I want to thank our local animal breeders. Without the care put into their breeding programs, we would not have the ability to offer the beautiful livestock to the public!

I want to acknowledge the community of Ipswich in the support and care we received during the flood disaster in February 2022. This was certainly the lowest and hardest point of this businesses existence and without the community, it likely would have been its end.

To my best friends Zannon Marshall and Jenny Carey. Zannon has been my sounding board and ideas man from the very start. There has been countless days where I’ve talked his ear off and received amazing advice in concerns to all things business. Jenny is my partner in BOSCH! At the start, she was the reason we ever got things done! She is my last failsafe on those ‘perfect storm’ days where I just need help and for that I’m always just so thankful.

Hannah. Without you I don’t know how I would have gotten through the tough days and longs weeks and months I’ve personally had to endure. The grind of small business puts a lot of strain on personal relationships and I’m thankful everyday for the support, understanding , patience and love she pours into our relationship.

Lastly, I need to thank you - the customers! Without the wonderful love and return customer base we’ve received here at NPN, none of this would be possible. Everyday we strive to ensure that our customers are looked after with honesty, integrity and love and we’re so grateful for every single one of you!

Special Mention: Our Dogs, Nosey and Charlie, for being the most cuddly and loving animals, and to Bubble, our cat, for being the sweetest, little buddy …. Even if he isn’t so cuddly.
