From an anxious / shut down pup, to an AD in training in 4 sessions. What a great team, especially knowing he is already marking on his hooman's stress / anxiety etc. Amazing transformation achieved through dedicated efforts to help Sunny be his best self. Luckily his best self is a super star that was bred for just this job.
Vying for bestest Labby of the week is Frankie. First public access. Only 5 months old, but R-s Rach has been training with me with Flip, who is now looking after Will. So it's neck and neck between sunny and Frankie this week.
Tension and anxiety in.a handler feeds through to the dog. Sunny's first public access demonstrated the ability to "park" himself, meaning that relaxation function to choose to sit or lay down once activity stops. Notice he checks in with a small hand touch, and then lays down.
First day of public access for Sunny. 2 months ago this pup had a 5 minute attention capacity before he'd shut down. By making training fun and having no strict structure, his training could develop progressively. In 3 sessions he is now powering through, not shutting down once. Brilliant job!
Who's a good boy? Iluka! Telisha and her ADiT Iluka had their first public access lesson yesterday and he was awesome. Telisha has demonstrated the dedication to his training with a faultless outing in the IGA. Feeding dogs - is your dog fat, or obese? At least 80% of the dogs I work with are overweight. Use the size of their head as a guide to the width of their body. Just because they have a waist, does not mean they aren't fat. Just like humans, the fat collects on the sides of their ribs and gives the illusion of a waist. WRONG. Cut out their kibble, or reduce it. Adult dogs can and should only need one meal a day. Balance their food with vegetables, both cooked and raw. This video shows a lab eating cooked pumpkin, sweet potato, blueberries, peas, beans, corn and chunks of raw carrot with some fresh chicken broth added. The raw carrot takes them time to eat and given the feeling of fullness. The anti gulp bowls extend their eating time....especially when the small peas and corn are left in the bottom. Please feed your dog responsibly. Remember also how many calories can be in extras like eggs and bones. These additions are great for dogs in general, but not ones that are on a diet.
