Day 2 of equine bodywork done & dusted at the 2024 PCQ State Championships at Beaudesert! It was lovely to meet people from far & wide who all prioritised their horse's welfare, making sure they felt as good as possible after travelling & competition. Shame about the rain & cold wind today, hopefully some sun is on the way for you all!

The human race is truly disappointing at times, have we really not evolved enough to stop torturing horses so they comply to whatever it is we want them to do? Why is a 'quick fix' the choice for so many riders rather than to review their riding or training or even consider that their horse may not be 'fit for purpose'. Rope nosebands are bad enough but nosebands with tacks or chain concealed on the inside is just plain horrid. These nosebands are currently available to purchase in the USA 🤬

If you ride your horse regularly & expect them to perform for you then making a plan for regular bodywork sessions is an important part of their care. One bodywork session cannot undo months or years of tension & maintaining your horse between regular sessions with stretching or strengthening exercises will give you & your horse even greater benefits! If you would like to book a regular session for equine partner contact me via phone, socials or my website - https://www.enhancedequineperformance.au/book-now

With competitions ended & the hot weather rolling in most of us are giving our equine partner a well deserved rest or taking the opportunity to get stuck into training so we can come out firing in 2024. Whether it's rest or boot camp it's a good time to book in for an equine bodywork session. Reducing muscle tension will allow your horse to rest both body & mind and reduce compensatory postures & movement patterns taking a hold, becoming the new 'normal'. Stepping up your horse's training or fitness will also benefit from muscle release allowing for improved range of motion& suppleness.

I am sharing this link to help gain support for Oxenford Pony Club where a number of my clients are members. I've had the pleasure of participating in one of the many educational days they offer to their members & they are a great club who have been on the Gold Coast for many many years. It would be terribly sad to see the club merged with another. Please sign the petition if you are comfortable doing so -
241 signatures are needed, let’s get there by the end of the day?

I 100% agree with Amy's post. It is often a case in a bit fitting where we would like to have the horse taking the contact forward, on the vertical, more open in the neck and the rider struggles with the feeling of having the horse in this position, going forward. If your training is solid you should trust the process & trust your horse...
Trust your horse to go forward
Probably one of the biggest sticking points for many: horses crunched up from a rider who is afraid to let go- and when they are let go they are snatched back up. Fear! It’s insidious. There is no judgment here of the human for being afraid
But
How can a horse ever trust a person who cannot learn to let go of them?
The reality is, a horse in forward motion is far safer than one being restrained. A horse restrained perpetually is a horse set up for implosion. Now THAT is scary
And a horse in BALANCED forward motion is the safest place to be on the planet
Do the work to create the balance
And then trust it, and let the horse move

Yesterday I spent most of my day with the horses in care Bangalow Temporary Equine Field Hospital
An Emmett treatment was a nice gentle way to relieve some muscle tension, discomfort & assist with compensatory postures helping the healing process. All of the horses enjoyed their sessions, relaxing & releasing. They have a small but great team of volunteers & vets providing them with the care each individual horse requires to get them back on track. If you would like to help the team & the horses in their care please contact them via their page to ask what items are most in need.
I am at all times an advocate for the horse, striving to attain the highest levels of performance possible. By taking a ‘whole horse’ approach I aim to improve equine performance and the horse/rider relationship. I am a fully qualified and insured Emmett practitioner with experience in treating a wide range of performance horses including racehorses, show hacks, dressage horses, show jumpers and eventers.
I have completed the RockTape Equine taping course and will include kinesiology taping as part of my treatments when beneficial. I have undertaken 2 of 3 modules of the Certificate in Lorinery Science with Neue Schule in the UK and I am one of only 2 students in Australia to be accepted into the ICPBC (International College for Professional Bit Fitting Consultants) in the Netherlands. I am also in the final stages of qualifying as a Certified Equine Ergonomist with Saddlefit 4 Life.
Continued professional development is important to me and I regularly undertake courses to improve my knowledge and services to clients. So far in 2020 I have completed Dr Sue Dyson’s Recognising 24 Pain Behaviours in Ridden Horses & attended webinars with Centaur Biomechanics.
So What is EMMETT and How Does it Work?
Emmett technique is a unique body therapy created by Australian Ross Emmett, that works equally well on both humans and animals.
This light touch muscle release technique, uses a horses’ neuro muscular pathway to reset muscle memory resulting in a more balanced, soft and supple equine. The technique involves the application of light pressure on specific points to affect release in the surrounding muscles. It is a gentle and safe technique that can improve movement and flexibility and aid in delivering increased performance for your horse.
Common conditions that an Emmett treatment can assist with:
· Restricted movement/stride length/flexibility
· Reduced biomechanical efficiency
· Tension in back and lumbar area
· Unbalanced head carriage
· Issues relating to poor fitting saddles/tack
· Injury recovery
So What is RockTape and How Does it Work?
RockTape is a kinesiology tape, made from flexible cotton and nylon fibres with an adhesive backing which allows full movement while providing some support and stability. The idea of RockTape is to facilitate correct movement patterns through taping.
Regional taping – involves taping to reduce pain and/or facilitate correct movement patterns following injury or to minimise potential injury.
Postural taping – is used to correct postural biomechanic dysfunction for both horse and rider
Edema taping – is a simple and effective method to reduce swelling enabling faster recovery.
The proper application of the tape creates a lifting effect that decompresses the tissue just under the skin, increasing nerve supply and fluid flow in the taped area. Taping is also said to have a neurological effect. The receptors within the skin play a part in movement awareness (proprioception). These are believed to be stimulated by the application of tape to the skin. RockTape can be used as a stand alone or as a complementary treatment in equine therapy. RockTape may be beneficial in the treatment of :
