Today is officially the first day of summer so please remember everyone there are a few things you can do to help our precious wildlife stay hydratedđź’¦ đź’¦

Providing water at different levels makes it accessible to all species while minimising their risk of being preyed upon….in the trees for possums and birds and on the ground, in the shade if possible for lizards, quenda and other ground dwellers.

Leave water in locations that provide some protection and screening from predators such as birds of prey and domestic pets. If leaving out a larger tub or bucket make sure it's secure
and provide a stick or rock for animals to use to climb out. 🙂

Our Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc volunteers, joined
by Augusta Wildlife Care, Possum Rescue and Rehabilitation, and Heritage Vet Clinic, participated this weekend in intensive, practical and rewarding wildlife training sessions by the amazing team led by Dr. Brandon Arnell and supported by Tess and Jemima from Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. We covered very hands on learnings such as assessing injured wildlife, fluid therapy, crop feeding, intramuscular injections, bandaging etc We also looked at how we can best care for injured before we can get to a vet. This initiative greatly benefits wildlife in the region. We extend our sincere gratitude to the team for their invaluable assistance with unforeseen emergencies over the weekend, which was deeply appreciated. Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc we are blessed to have the support of so many volunteers from all walks of life that help in so many ways behind the scenes to keep the oil tuning the engine. Di makes us pouches, possum palaces and these two mum and Joey western ringtail possums to use for education. Di’s husband Allen stabilised our new education trailer for us. Ray helps put cages together and fixes them too. Terry worked on the trailer to make sure we could store it in the garage and also escape proofed a large cage for the phascogayles!! Jenny has now make us six absolutely perfect possum palaces and they are already well used by our possums in care. We thank Animal Rescue Craft Guild for use of the pattern, appreciated

A huge thank you to everyone that helps us in so many ways 🌸🌸🌸

What a wonderful Sunday we had where the day was enjoyed by members of the public at the stunningly beautiful wildlife sanctuary- Nilgup Park- for the annual Bush Picnic/BBQ where Mary Craigie, or Mac as she is widely known, selects a charity to be the beneficiary of funds raised on the day and this year Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc was selected. The day raised an incredible $1535.

Our huge “thank you” and sincere appreciation goes to Mac and her band of volunteers who worked so hard to make the day a success.👏👏

Mary is well known for her dedication and passion for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, and conservation over many decades❤️❤️

Thank you to all that attended and those that donated produce and items for the raffle🙂

It is always such a heartwarming experience visiting schools to talk about our precious wildlife. On Friday Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc volunteers spent the day at Dunsborough Primary School talking about wildlife and facilitating activities with a focus on the critically endangered Western Ringtail Possum. Approx 700 students over the day with great engagement and some really interesting questions!! Look at some of the pictures by these talented little artists….certainly they were much better than my feeble attempt!! Well done to the students of Dunsborough Primary School, amazing effort and so proud of you !! Daphne Sinclair

With our latest little ones coming in, it’s time for us all to keep an eye out for any that are found alone and sadly without their mum. If you do come across one, put it in a little pouch which could be even a beanie or sock and put inside your jumper to keep warm. The quicker they are brought into care, the better chance they have if survival. Take to your nearest Vet or Call us on 0488721424 for assistance Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc

As Spring approaches it brings new beginnings, and for the baby brushtail and Western ringtail possums, it's a time of renewed hope. Although they've lost their mothers, we can make a difference in their lives by offering them a safe haven and raising them before releasing them back into the wild. Meet little Rey and Pete ❤️❤️

It was lovely to have Lisa with us to celebrate our wonderful volunteers🙂❤️

As part of this year's National Volunteer Week, this past weekend I had the privilege of joining the team from Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc for their High Tea event, made possible by a grant from Volunteering WA and Lotterywest đź«–

Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue now has more than 70 members which includes 7 junior members. The group is very diverse and has volunteers involved in a diverse range of activities such as:
o wildlife rescue and rehabilitation
o helping rehabilitators on a daily basis cleaning cages
o collecting leaves and other flora
o fundraising and collecting bottles and cans (this financial year worth @$3500)
o education and awareness
o Helping with administration or being part of the Committee or Management

These volunteers attended over 1200 calls, rehabilitated more than 300 native animals and volunteered more than 25,000 hours collectively (2023-24 F/Y).

This is just one example of the amazing people giving their time and resources to support our communities.

I thank all our volunteers who are so dedicated đź’™
