We are so thankful the Community of Dunsborough is safe after yesterday’s fires, but now our wildlife urgently need your help.

Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue is working closely with DBCA today to support injured and displaced wildlife after the recent events.

With wildlife lives already lost we need our community's help!

If you see any injured or displaced wildlife, please call Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue on 0488 721 424 asap. Don’t attempt to catch any wildlife as it could be suffering burns, incorrect handling can make it worse.

PLEASE, PLEASE put water out❤️‍🩹Birds baths, shallow water bowls on the ground & some up high to support, as they now need to search for other food sources & therefore hydration.

And..... don’t forget to make your house wildlife friendly by keeping your cats inside, dogs away from fences night and away from wildlife water sources. Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc

Beautiful musk ducks, like this young female, rarely come into care. Rescued by Kate at Yallingup beach two weeks ago, she has now fully recovered and has been released back into the wild, thanks to the diligent care of Karine, a Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue volunteer from Yallingup. Her unique appearance is particularly noteworthy. ❤️ Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc

All Wildlife rescuers and rehabilitators work so hard to save our precious wildlife. At times, this can be difficult as some succumb to their injuries.

So I wanted to share this truly heartwarming story with you from Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc

Western Ringtail Possum Asha was brought to us on 30 September by Ashleigh from Reinscourt. She was not doing well at all and could not move from her hips down, and she had a little joey with her Pic 1). The prognosis from the vet was that she was not a long-term prospect due to her significant spinal injury. However, it was agreed that we would take Asha home and care for her to give her time to raise baby Ashleigh to be independent.

She spent the next 6 weeks in a large soft crate where she could drag herself around and care for her Joey. Asha is the most beautiful mother and raised a strong independent WRP. They were finally moved to a large cage to enable Ashleigh to learn how to climb.

After a couple of weeks we found mum part way up a branch but still dragging her left side, we were amazed!! Over the period of the next few weeks Asha got stronger and starting climbing, although gingerly.

So to our absolute delight, last Sunday following the all clear to release from the Vet, we took both Asha and Ashleigh back to their home to release much to the excitement and delight of the property owners.

What amazing determination and the bond of a mother to want to be there for her Joey. Check out her journey below ❤️❤️

Today is officially the first day of summer so please remember everyone there are a few things you can do to help our precious wildlife stay hydrated💦 💦

Providing water at different levels makes it accessible to all species while minimising their risk of being preyed upon….in the trees for possums and birds and on the ground, in the shade if possible for lizards, quenda and other ground dwellers.

Leave water in locations that provide some protection and screening from predators such as birds of prey and domestic pets. If leaving out a larger tub or bucket make sure it's secure
and provide a stick or rock for animals to use to climb out. 🙂

Our Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc volunteers, joined
by Augusta Wildlife Care, Possum Rescue and Rehabilitation, and Heritage Vet Clinic, participated this weekend in intensive, practical and rewarding wildlife training sessions by the amazing team led by Dr. Brandon Arnell and supported by Tess and Jemima from Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. We covered very hands on learnings such as assessing injured wildlife, fluid therapy, crop feeding, intramuscular injections, bandaging etc We also looked at how we can best care for injured before we can get to a vet. This initiative greatly benefits wildlife in the region. We extend our sincere gratitude to the team for their invaluable assistance with unforeseen emergencies over the weekend, which was deeply appreciated. Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc we are blessed to have the support of so many volunteers from all walks of life that help in so many ways behind the scenes to keep the oil tuning the engine. Di makes us pouches, possum palaces and these two mum and Joey western ringtail possums to use for education. Di’s husband Allen stabilised our new education trailer for us. Ray helps put cages together and fixes them too. Terry worked on the trailer to make sure we could store it in the garage and also escape proofed a large cage for the phascogayles!! Jenny has now make us six absolutely perfect possum palaces and they are already well used by our possums in care. We thank Animal Rescue Craft Guild for use of the pattern, appreciated

A huge thank you to everyone that helps us in so many ways 🌸🌸🌸

During Dunsborough Bay Ok Day, Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc. facilitated an educational experience for Dunsborough Primary students, with volunteers Lyndall, Jenn, and Kay discussing the critically endangered Western Ringtail Possums, while students expressed their creativity through possum badge-making, one student still wearing their badge five days later❤️ Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc
