As our wetlands dry and our native Black Swans natural food sources disappear, hundreds of young Cygnets (infant Swans) leave in search of food - often after their parents have moved on. As most Cygnets still cannot fly (they take 4-5 months to learn and usually stay with their parents until around 9 months), they will sadly often end up in places with no food at all such as;

❗ Swimming in the Port Geographe Marina canals
❗ Swimming out in the open ocean
❗ Wandering along roads
❗ Or found injured, sick, and exhausted

✅ Call if you see Cygnets or Swans in the ocean, canals, on our roads, or appearing weak/injured
✅ Please keep dogs away from Swans, especially families with young Cygnets
✅Keep following social media for other ways to help including volunteering, donating feed etc

This Swan & Cygnet rescue line is operated by Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc - a local registered wildlife charity powered by dedicated volunteers who rescue and rehabilitate injured or abandoned native wildlife here in the South West of WA.

Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc enjoyed a wonderful morning with Geographe Bay Primary School celebrating Biodiversity Day. The year 6 Councillors excelled as MCs and eloquently discussed the theme Living in Harmony with Nature. GBWR was honored to present Principal Greg Clarke with honorary membership on behalf of the school, acknowledging their three-year partnership and dedication to biodiversity and western ringtail possum conservation. Thanks to everyone for helping make possum dreys over last weekend, 45 in total!! They were immediately put into action down at Dunsborough following the fire. Our appreciation to Community Bank Busselton and Dunsborough for kindly donating all the materials needed to make the dreys and for their staff and Board directors who attended both days to help make the dreys! Appreciated The donuts were enjoyed too😋

We are so thankful the Community of Dunsborough is safe after yesterday’s fires, but now our wildlife urgently need your help.

Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue is working closely with DBCA today to support injured and displaced wildlife after the recent events.

With wildlife lives already lost we need our community's help!

If you see any injured or displaced wildlife, please call Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue on 0488 721 424 asap. Don’t attempt to catch any wildlife as it could be suffering burns, incorrect handling can make it worse.

PLEASE, PLEASE put water out❤️‍🩹Birds baths, shallow water bowls on the ground & some up high to support, as they now need to search for other food sources & therefore hydration.

And..... don’t forget to make your house wildlife friendly by keeping your cats inside, dogs away from fences night and away from wildlife water sources. Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc

Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue volunteer Robyn has successfully raised Rey and Oakley, two beautiful brushtail possums that lost their mothers at a very young age, and have now developed into independent animals, allowing them to be released back into their natural habitat.
