When asked to foster, of course they said yes! 😍She was their first ever foster and building trust took a little time. At first, she was too nervous to venture out of her crate or be in a room with them 🥲 But the more they bonded with her, the more they knew they couldn’t let her go. As they predicted early on, Posie became a foster fail (or foster WIN as we like to call it!). This is what happens when male calves in the dairy industry are given a chance at life! ❤️ It is common practice in Australia (and many other countries) for these beautiful babies to be discarded in their first few days of life as they do not produce milk. 😔 They are considered not as individuals with their own purpose and right to life, but instead as an expensive waste of resources. There are some who escape this fate- but their experience is short-lived. They are sold to be slaughtered for veal at around 20 weeks old. When we met her last week she was already fighting to have a chance at life in a regional pound before she was rescued by Willow Tree Sanctuary - but her struggles were far from. over. 😔 Lady experienced severe and violent seizures and has remained in Emergency care since Tuesday there ever since. Specialists raced against time to diagnose and treat this little baby, and Willow Tree Sanctuary set out to find the funds to cover her staggering and growing specialist vet bill- which currently stands at $8000. Lady has neurological damage making her blind and unable to walk. Specialists believe this damage may be reversible with the right treatment. Lady will not survive without extensive emergency interventions, 24 hr hospital care, testing, and possible surgery. The cause of these concerns is still unknown, the treatment potentially ineffective, and most importantly. Without further tests, Lady will not get the chance to experience the life of love and belonging she deserves. We will not give up on Lady, but as a not-for-profit Animal Rescue, we are seeking help to meet the enormous cost of specialist vet care so that Lady has a chance at beginning her healing process.
