Cynda & Tilly now on the right path to becoming a brilliant dog, after completing “introduction to puppy obedience” training.
They are very lucky to have dedicated owners who want to get it right!
I look forward to seeing them in other classes in the future.

Look how well behaved Dusty is on his first visit to the Kingscliff hotel. He had 7 dogs within a 5 metre radius of him! He was given fresh water & spoilt with treats!
Just one of the benefits of dog training. You can take your pooch with you on a night out and you can all enjoy it!
Very proud of you Dusty 👏

A great group of puppy parents to work with over the past few weeks teaching them how to raise a confident & independent puppy who will manage in our world (ie: socialisation) a strong recall, loose lead walking & impulse control with the sit & release cue. Two returning clients with new puppies!
There is a lot of work & conditioning needed in this critical faze in their life and in the following 12-18 months to ensure you raise the dog you desire & so rewarding when you achieve it!

A great few weeks working with Woody & his human’s.
They were lucky enough to get a private program. Woody had some good obedience skills however completing the two week program set his humans on the right path to conditioning basic foundations, a strong recall & tidy up his loose lead walking.
A pleasure working with them all.

This is so True! When humans "get this" we will have less behaviour issues with our dogs and they will be much happier!

For the people who "baby" their dogs and who dip way too deep into the humanising bucket know this. ⬇️ ... ⬇️ ... ⬇️ ... ⬇️ ... ⬇️ ... ⬇️ ...

When you treat a dog like a human (baby), you start making them weak and fragile. You deprive them of everything that makes a dog truly happy, and in return, you start to instil all of the worst traits we as humans possess.

FIREWORKS! This New Year's Eve, party hard, but party safe!

Fireworks cause terrible distress for animals! They panic & can hurt themselves trying to escape the noise. Fear is real - it's an emotion, not a behaviour, so don't believe some of the rubbish I'm seeing about not comforting your dog, or getting them to sit or drop! That's outdated nonsense. Get organised now! Read the list!

NOTE: Medications such as Acepromazine should be avoided as they provide sedation without the anti-anxiety effect, and could potentially cause an increase in fear.

Feel free to share & if you have a new puppy, book into our January course NOW! https://pawbehaviour.com.au/group-training/puppy-school/

Happy New Year! Take care, keep safe, hug your dogs! ❤🐾

The Importance of Foundations in Dog Training

As parents, we send our children to nursery and primary school, where they learn essential skills. When teaching them to count, we don’t say, “You’re learning maths”, because they wouldn’t understand that concept yet. Instead, we make it fun by teaching them to count Smarties, buttons, or their favourite toys. The key is to hook them in and create enthusiasm for the subject. While not everyone needs advanced mathematics, basic counting is a vital, everyday skill.

Now let’s flip this to dogs. It’s impressive to see dogs perform flashy tricks—backflips, high-fives, playing dead, or rolling over—but these aren’t necessarily functional behaviours. For the everyday dog owner, the focus should be on foundational skills: the sit, down, recall, place, and loose-lead walking. These are the building blocks of good obedience and a well-rounded, balanced dog.

Many pet owners rush ahead, trying to teach their dogs advanced tricks or behaviours before mastering the basics. This is where most go wrong. Even champions in dog sports—those who perform at the highest levels—practise foundational skills daily. The basics are not something you teach once and forget; they are revisited, reinforced, and refined throughout the dog’s life.

Without a solid foundation, everything else will crumble. A reliable sit, a strong recall, or a calm loose-lead walk will serve both you and your dog far better in everyday life than any flashy trick. The basics aren’t just commands; they are the cornerstone of communication, trust, and control.

It’s not about quick fixes. Dog training takes patience, consistency, and commitment. The time you invest in perfecting the foundations will pay off tenfold. You’ll have a calmer, happier, and more reliable dog—a companion you can take anywhere, confident in their behaviour.

So, start with the basics. Get those rock solid before moving on. Everything else—whether tricks, advanced training, or competition—will then become the bonus it should be.

Another great group of trainers to work with who completed Introduction to dog obedience training (only 2sessions) yesterday.

They can now join the walking & socialising group session at the discounted rate if they would like to continue training.

This is proving popular for people who are time poor & on a budget.

Don’t wait until your dog’s behaviour is out of control to start educating them to be the dog YOU want them to be. Sign up now for the next intake early January 2025 as there is only 4 spots available per group.
