Our annual FNQ Dogs Day Out Festival will be held on Saturday 31 August, 2024 at Barron Waters Park, Caravonica.
A celebration of manโs best friend, and an exhibition of the best products, services and entertainment for all those who love pets and animals.
This event is made possible thanks to our event partner, Cairns Regional Council and our major sponsors, Red Beret Hotel and Dogtainers Pet Transport Cairns. Thanks also to our other sponsors, Northern Beaches Veterinary Clinic, Emergency Vets 24/7 and Care FNQ Disabilities
We are delighted to announce Yaps as our 2024 charity partner.
With a program of entertainment with MC host, The Festival Guy, this is a FREE family event and includes education on responsible dog and pet ownership and adoption, as well as agility and training demonstrations. Most importantly we will have some fun and interesting interactive activities for you and your dogs.
There will be stalls with pet products including healthy food snacks, medicinal products, crafts, clothing, artworks and loads more pet related items, plus a selection of local food vans.

As dogs reach their SENIOR YEARS, they may develop mobility troubles that cause them difficulties when navigating stairs, walking over smooth floors, or rising from rest.
If you notice your pet starting to have issues moving around comfortably and confidently, we'd recommend the following:

If your pet has not seen our veterinary team within the last 6 months, we recommend a general health check. At this time, we will perform a physical examination on your pet, particularly focusing on any factors that could hamper their mobility, such as:
โจ Reduced vision
โจ Signs of reduced coordination or strength
โจ Symptoms of arthritis
โจ Overgrown claws
โจ Symptoms of cognitive decline (old age brain changes)
Depending on your pet's history and physical examination findings, we can then discuss potential options for recommended diagnostic testing (such as blood and urine tests or joint X-rays) and programs for the management of any health issues (such as weight loss and arthritis management).

Bailey a 14 year old Shih Tzu cross and Coco a 17 year old Ragdoll cross were showing signs of oral pain at home. Their pawrents described their symptoms as drooling, head shaking, refusing to eat dry food and not wanting mum or dad to touch their face or look in their mouth ๐ฅน
They both received our geriatric anaesthetic care package and major dentals. Both had multiple painful teeth extracted. They had a day stay in our hospital and went home in the afternoon on oral pain relief.
At their 3 day recheck their mum and dad reported a HUGE improvement in both Bailey and Cocoโs demeanor at home. At their 10 day recheck Dad reported that they were like a puppy and kitten again! ๐๐ฅฐ
We were so pleased to see them both so smoochy and happy, running around the consult room like a much younger versions of themselves.

Bears parents decided to take Bear to the beach to celebrate his 6th birthday during the week. Unfortunately Bear slipped his lead and was accidentally run over by a truck.
His parents immediately called our team and brought him in to be assessed. Amazingly, Bear only sustained superficial injuries and was discharged not long after presentation.

Poor Samโฆ ๐ฅน
While playing with another dog, Sam fell down the stairs and broke her front right leg.
Sam was brought to NBVC and Dr Rod meticulously and carefully placed a surgical plate to enable her ulna and radius bones to heal.
We are so happy to report that Sam is using her leg well, even walking on it the next day, and sheโs expected to make a full recovery!

After an extremely busy July, jam packed with ultrasounds, X-rays, emergency surgeries, eye surgeries, orthopaedic surgeries, oncology work-ups, on top of the standard routine consultations and surgery (and our clinicโs birthday celebrations ๐ฅณ), we thought it was time to soak up some of the ADORABLE faces that have been in to come and see us over the last month!! ๐ถ๐ฑ

Nurse Natasha brought her 12 month old cattle dog, Patch in for his desexing (castration) procedure! ๐ถ๐ซถ Patch additionally had two dew claws removed from his hind limbs.
