Today we said goodbye to Sunny. 💙🐾

We first met Sunny and his family at the dog park, and over the last year or so he's become a familiar face around Dog Tales.

Today was his final visit before he heads off to New South Wales for a brand-new adventure with his family.

I don't think Sunny was too concerned about the move... although he did seem a little unsure when I explained that he was heading somewhere much colder than Cairns. 😂❄️

Thank you for all the cuddles, Sunny. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know you and your wonderful family.

Wishing you safe travels, lots of new adventures, and plenty of exciting places to sniff in your new home.

Bon voyage, handsome boy. 💙🐾

Monty came in for a bath.

I came out wearing half of it. 💦😂

You know that moment when a dog looks you dead in the eye and decides NOW is the perfect time to shake?

Yeah... that happened.

Several times.

To be fair, Monty seemed to think sharing the water around was only polite. I, however, was less enthusiastic about the arrangement. 🤦‍♀️🐾

At least one of us had fun during bath time!

Leo has been coming to Dog Tales for over four years now, and he's one of those dogs that feels less like a client and more like part of the extended family 🩵

Over the years I've watched his family grow, welcomed new little human sisters into his world, and had the privilege of being part of his grooming journey through it all.

Today was just another one of Leo's regular spa days.

A relaxing bath.
A little head massage.
A few cuddles.
And plenty of opportunities to remind him just how handsome he is 😊

Some dogs come and go.

Others leave paw prints on your heart.

Leo is definitely one of those dogs 🐾💙

Some dogs tolerate the dryer.

Gibby? She practically moved in 😂

After a few bath-time complaints and one very enthusiastic shake, she settled in for her favourite part of the groom and soaked up every bit of attention.

And when I asked who was going camping this weekend... the head tilt appeared 🏕️💕

You're looking very beautiful, Gibby.

Let's see how long that lasts once you find some dirt 😅

Alpha had some VERY strong opinions about today’s blow wave 🗣️

Unfortunately Lola heard the complaints from the other end of the house and immediately joined the discussion 😂

Things escalated quickly… Including Lola howling at a VIDEO of herself howling at Alpha while Sam silently questioned every life choice that led him to this moment 🫠

The Dog Tales complaints department was fully operational today.

If your dog’s feet smell like corn chips… you’re not imagining it 👀🌽🐾

That musty “Fritos” smell is often caused by yeast or bacteria building up on the paws — especially in our humid Cairns climate.

Double-coated dogs that:
🐾 swim
🐾 play in wet grass
🐾 stay damp between the toes

can be especially prone to it.

The good news?
Catching it early is MUCH easier than waiting until the skin becomes red, inflamed and itchy.

Ari was thrilled with his foot treatment… obviously 😅🐺

Mother Fluffer enters his dinosaur era 🦖

Quite possibly the least ferocious dinosaur ever spotted in Cairns 😂

Chewie the Newfoundland may be built like a prehistoric beast… but mostly he just enjoys spa days, being dramatically soaked, and making me question whether I’m grooming a dog or a small bear 🫧

Not every good dog stands perfectly still for a groom… and that’s okay 🧡
Ned the Rough Collie finds the dryer super overwhelming, so this groom was done completely at HIS pace.
On the table. Off the table. Back on again. A quick escape attempt somewhere in the middle 😂
But eventually? He chose to stay.
No force. No rushing. Just patience, positive reinforcement and approximately 47 million ‘good boys’ 🐾
By the end, Ned was calmly standing for brushing, dematting, nails and paws like an absolute champion.
Sometimes progress doesn’t look perfect… sometimes it looks like trust.

Britney travels all the way from Mission Beach to see me every 8 weeks 🧡

An ex Australian Champion German Spitz, now a much loved service dog to her beautiful mum.

A few years ago they lived locally here in Cairns, but after moving to Mission Beach, they still make the trip up for Britney’s specialist deshed appointments… and honestly, that kind of trust never gets taken for granted.

While they’re here, mum gets to have lunch with her son too 🥹

It got me thinking how lucky I am to have clients who travel from all over North Queensland — Mission Beach, Kuranda, Mareeba, Edmonton, Port Douglas and even Dimbulah — because they trust me with their dogs.
