It’s been an absolutely overwhelming few days with my dear Charli. A freak accident lead to her breaking her leg and ultimately requiring urgent amputation of her left foot.
My heart breaks for my little girl. So many things we were learning on our journey together that we will no longer be able to do, (or at least how we once did anyhow). The simple things you take for granted as a parrot owner, like watching them hold their favourite treat up to their beak or asking them to ‘step up’. 😭 I think it’s probably safe to say I’m struggling more than my strong girl is… she’s so unbelievably smart, tough and determined to make this work, I couldn’t be more proud or inspired by the might within my little green hen. 🦜🥹😭
If anything over this last few days, I have realised there is a lack of information for birds with disabilities & particularly bird amputees. In the future I hope this is something Charli & I can provide to the aviculture community through our experience.
A massive thank you & appreciation to Dr Fiona Blakeley at who provided the greatest care & gave trusting, heartfelt medical advice for our beautiful Charli Mac 💚
Charli is recovering well, taking her medications like a little champ (thanks to syringe training), demanding all the tickles, eating like it’s going out of fashion and conquering each battle as it arises ✨🦜
So much love; simply beyond grateful she’s still here with us. Definitely lapping up our cuddles together, she’s too special. 🥰🌏
