FNQ Wildlife Rescue

FNQ Wildlife Rescue For emergency native animal rescue please call our 24-hour hotline on 4053 4467. We also maintain a Rescue Centre in Cairns which is staffed by volunteers.

FNQ Wildlife Rescue has been providing an essential service to wildlife in Tropical North Queensland for over 30years. At present, we have over 160 members covering an area from Mission Beach, west to Mt Surprise and north to Weipa. Our 24-hour 7-day rescue hotline receives well over 5,000 calls each year calling for our volunteers to assist sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife. Many of these anima

ls are taken in by our volunteer carers who raise them to a stage where they can be released back into a natural environment. Raising wildlife is no mean feat and many carers give up months of their time and much of their own money to rehabilitate these animals. Many carers spent up to $70.00 per week on fauna supplies for the animals they have in care. Due to the high cost of living some carers can no longer afford to feed the animals thus we need help to buy products for them. As a volunteer organisation, we receive no Government funding and rely on our membership, sale of wildlife supplies and donations to keep us going, yet we provide an essential service to the community. Rehabilitation is very expensive, although we provided fauna at cost and yearly petrol vouchers, there is a huge cost on our carers who most of them are pensioners. We have a very large administration expenditure of $18,000.00 (being rent, electricity, telephone, insurance etc.}
This financial year 2022, 1837 animals went into care of which 1587 were birds.

Thanks for shareing Stacey Appreciate our vets that treat native wildlife for free. This little sweetheart has 2 fractures. Her wing needs to be strapped to keep it in the correct position for the bone to knit together. It’s essential for birds like this to be strong fliers as they catch their food (small insects) while flying. Fingers crossed that all goes well in her recovery 🩷..Welcome Swallow. Cairns NQ

Many washes with toothbrush scrubs to break up the tar. Lots of fish and care. Now looking like a million dollars with only a little feather loss. Thanks again Julie and Nandalie from FNQ Wildlife Rescue for all your hard work.

Miss Friday is doing well, very slow process with her oiled feathers. She's in relatively stable condition and putting on weight. Biggest issue is the stripping of oil on her feathers. Going to take time .

Our Story

FNQ Wildlife Rescue is a non-profit organisation situated in Far North Queensland dedicated to the rescue, care, and release of sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife from Cardwell to Cape York.

As a voluntary organisation, we rely on community support to continue to operate our emergency telephone service and to provide financial assistance to our volunteer wildlife rehabilitators.

We became an Incorporated Association and registered charity in 1999 and are listed on the Register of Environmental Organisations.
