Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre

Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre (CTRC) is a volunteer organisation rehabilitating sick and injured marine turtles and running education programs.

Here at CTRC our mission "Protecting and promoting the conservation of marine turtles" serves as the guiding principle and therefore underpins the aims and objectives of our organisation. Our aims and objectives include the following:

- Do all that we can to rehabilitation sick and injured turtles in our care
- Endeavor to provide assistance, where required or requested, in efforts to rescue tu

rtles in distress
- Share our knowledge in the interests of turtle rescue, rehabilitation and research
- Endeavour to raise awareness of issues faced by marine turtles through positive publicity and teaching
- Help to promote humane and sustainable practices through co-operation and education
- Seek to positively influence Government Policy relating to turtle conservation and the marine environment

Thanks so much to the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre volunteers for adding a little Turtle Magic to our Hartley’s Wildlife Festival celebrations today. And we will finish off with a special Wombat Talk after the Croc Show this afternoon.

Morning munch 🥬

Raine is a gorgeous green sea turtle in the care of Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre while she recovers from a neurological parasite called coccidiosis. This parasite is contracted through food and works its way into turtles brains making it extremely hard for them to navigate and change direction while swimming.

Since being in care Raine has undergone a series of treatments to remove the parasite and can now freely change directions and swim normally!

With a focus on allowing her to rest and recover, she is provided with lots of nutrients through high protein squids for muscle growth and leafy greens for vitamins like this bok choy!

Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre was co-founded by Jennifer Gilbert and even has a turtle rehab centre on-site at the JCU EduQuarium.

Last week we had these three lovely girls, Illari, Freya and Alana visit our Centre at Fitzroy Island. They had picked oranges from a family property, juiced them and then bottled them. They then created a stall and sold them. They raised over $200 which they gave to Louisse for the turtles. Fantastic effort girls. The turtles thank you. 🐢🐢
