Smooch a Pooch Grooming Salon and School is owned and operated by Jill, a passionate dog lover and professional groomer. Jill offers a salon-based dog grooming service in Smithfield Cairns, as well as tuition for dog owners who wish to learn how to groom their pets correctly to help them cope with the tropical climate. Smooch a Pooch is also a Professional Dog Grooming School offering coaching for

dog lovers wishing to enter the Pet Industry as a groomer. The 4-Day Professional Dog Grooming Course is also available at DGS Imports in Shailer Park, Brisbane - it is run once every 8 weeks.

Day 4 complete and the new Groomers head home to Newcastle and Sydney.

Both ladies groomed 2 dogs today.

Darcy, our regular Tibetan terrier x Poodle model behaved really well for Heather.

Ziggy the Moodle (with some Bichon we think) came for his first modelling job 🤣 and looked incredible after Imogen had finished.

Scout and Elsa the Cavoodles came in to the salon for a short shave. Imogen and Heather helped me complete the grooms and learned all about clipping down with a 7F blade.

Well done Imogen. You will now be an incredible asset to your boss, being able to do all the grooms as well as look after all those pups in the boarding kennels.

Your grooms show amazing attention to detail.

Day 2. Another glorious day in Tropical Cairns.

We had 3 dog models today:
🐾 Georgie the white Shizhu,
🐾 Koa the grey Havanese x Shizhu
🐾 Paddy the Cavoodle.

Heather and Imogen did really well and managed to do one full dog each and then shared the groom for Georgie.

So Jess managed to groom 2 - both Milo and Coco, who both turned up a bit matted and overdue.

Nyx and Teddy the Cavoodles were here again. They’ve been coming as models for 3 years now.
Muriel groomed Nyx and Tracy groomed Teddy.

Daisy our friendly Labradoodle was groomed by Shantel.

Leo worked with Bernadette all day and went home with a really white and tidy coat.

Waffles the other Cavoodle was groomed and scissored by Sarah.

Day 3
A mixed bag of dog models today. This made the day a bit more challenging.
😌
We had Guy the toy poodle come for the first time 😊
New models are always welcome.
Poor little Guy was so matted and overdue for a groom.
Sarah took on the challenge and did a fantastic job removing all the knots and doing her first ‘poodle cut’ on him.
His mum was delighted with the result and Guy will be coming back in December for the next course.
Well done Sarah.

Sarah’s mum Tracy groomed their own 9-month-old Shizhu, Maple. She too was a challenge with lots of knots in the coat. Maple’s puppy fur was tangled with the newly-growing adult fur, so it had to be shaved off.
Tracy left the head hair long, so that Sarah can tie it up in ‘piggy tails’ 🤣

Henry the Spoodle did his usual wiggling and whining (typical Cocker trait 🤣) and made Shantel’s grooming experience a bit challenging.

Bernadette brought her gorgeous toy poodle puppy, Queenie today.
She is only 6 months old and had her first poodle cut.

Muriel did an amazing job on Ruby the Cavoodle. She scissored her legs and head and then did a lot of blending on the body area to try and disguise Ruby’s alopaecia patches.

Jess did a lovely job on Abbey and made her face look so pretty.
Abbey’s owner asked for a short face today, so poor Jess had to cut off more hair just before Abbey went home.

Day 2 and another 7 fantastic grooms.

These ladies are great and are picking up the skills really quickly.

We had a few naughty little doggies in the salon today and they gave 4 of the groomers a bit of a hard time

It’s always the front paws!

Meeko the young black and white Cavoodle wiggled all day. Jess did so well handling him (due to years of dog fostering experience) and she produced a really beautiful groom on him.
✅
Our 2 cheeky little, white Maltese x Shizhu girls, Rosie and Lily hid their front paws in the hope that Shantel and Muriel wouldn’t see them 🤣
Despite that, look at the beautiful faces that the ladies styles on them.

Mum and daughter team, Tracy and Sarah also have good sc******ng ability and made Emmy and Sage look gorgeous.

Miley our other Shizhu model was a bit wiggly for Bernadette but she too produced a wonderful groom.

Tobby (Shizhu Havanese we think!) was beautifully groomed by our youngest star (still at school) Caitlyn.

July 2024 Grooming Course in Brisbane is complete.

It was a lovely day to finish on. The sun ☀️ shone and the students smiled all day.

The doggies all went home looking absolutely stunning.

Gwyneth groomed her gorgeous Sheepapoo Paddington, (an Old English Sheepdog x Standard Poodle).
He had a few mats in his coat, so we couldn’t leave the coat really long and fluffy. But Gwyneth managed to get a 2F 16mm blade through his coat. She scissored his face and legs. He looked pretty cute by the time she finished.

Our two Spoodles Henry and Daisy had lovely neat grooms done by Jasmine and Olivia.

Today we welcomed back a previous graduate, Hayley from Heidi’s Mobile Pet Grooming.

Hayley came for a one day Sc******ng Skills training.
She groomed Charlotte the Cavoodle today and used a blue 10mm snap on attachment for the body and then scissored everything else. Nice job Hayley 👏👏

Our remaining 5 ladies worked quietly and efficiently again today and produced some amazing, high standard grooms.

Day 2 is complete.

They all finished early! 🤩 That’s the first time that’s ever happened.

Today was the day for ‘wiggly’ dogs 🤣🤣🤣
We had our young Cavoodle Meeko who fidgeted all day, but was expertly handled by Carla.

Our two little Maltese x Shizhu girls Rosie and Lily are normally really naughty 😉 but today, their groomers Gwyneth and Bec did an amazing job with them.
Despite the wiggling, the ladies each completed an amazing groom.

Donna also did a lovely groom on Miley the grey Shizhu.

Big boy Tobby and Olivia worked quietly and efficiently together. What a team!

Lastly, Jasmine did a fabulous long 13mm clip on our Abbey the Maltese x Poodle.
Abbey’s mum wanted bare poodle paws, so Jasmine and Carla shared that task.
