‼️ IMPORTANT UPDATE: PET MICROCHIPPING‼️
Microchip Pet Registry company, HomeSafeID, will soon cease to operate online.

What does this mean? 👇
If you know your pet is registered with HomeSafeID, you will need to change your microchip registration to another company 📝

If your pet's registration isn't updated, should they go missing or are found, vets/councils/animal shelters will no longer be able to view your pet’s ownership details listed on their microchip when it is scanned, making it difficult to reunite you!

If you don’t know your pet’s microchip number or have lost their paperwork with their registration details, contact your veterinarian, council or animal shelter. They can scan your pet and provide the microchip number.

If you adopted a pet from RSPCA with a HomeSafe ID registry or had a microchip implanted at a RSPCA Community Day, while we cannot update your pet’s microchip details for you, we can help you find your adoptee’s microchip number and answer any questions you may have on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) or your local shelter.

✅ Make sure they have a collar with ID tags, just in case they get scared and run.

🌞 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝘀! 🌞

While Cairns currently has thunderstorms at night, BOM has also issued an ⚠️ 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 ⚠️ for the coming few days.

It’s important to keep our furry friends safe in the heat. Here are some quick tips to protect your pets:

1. 💦 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆! Make sure your pet always has fresh water & provide additional water sources during summer!

2. 🦮 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲—walk during cooler hours (early morning or evening).

3. 🏖️ 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 to rest if they’re outside. If your pet has the option to stay indoors in air-conditioning, consider this on warmer days.

4. 🚗 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿—temperatures inside can be deadly, even for just a few minutes!

5. 🥵𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲: excessive panting, drooling, or lethargy. Get help if you notice any of these signs!

⚡🌧️ 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀🌧️⚡

Thunderstorms can be scary 😧 for our furry friends & our local forecast looks we are in for a few stormy ⛈️ days in a row!

If your dog struggles with storm anxiety, you’re not alone! Here’s how to help them stay calm and safe:

1. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲: Set up a cozy 💤, quiet area where your dog can retreat during the storm. Close the windows, draw the curtains, and dim the lights.

2. 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀: Gentle petting, a soothing voice, or calming music 🎶 can help. Some dogs also benefit from anxiety wraps or calming products.

3. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗩𝗲𝘁: If your dog’s storm phobia is severe , talk to your veterinarian about prescription medications 💊 that can help. Your vet can recommend safe options to manage their anxiety and make storms less frightening.

4. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱: Offer toys 🧸, treats 🦴, or engage in a game to keep their mind off the storm.

5. 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰: Play white noise or calming music 🎧 inside to help drown out the loud sounds of the storm. It can create a more peaceful environment and reduce anxiety.

6. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗜𝗳 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲: If your dog is highly anxious, try to stay indoors 🏡 with them during the storm. But if you must go out, ensure they are in a quiet, safe space. Remember to check your fence line for any easy escape routes.

🐾 Microchip Your Pet: A Small Step for Big Safety! 🐾

December is National Pet ID Month, so we are taking the opportunity to talk about the importance of microchips! 🐶🐱🦜

Microchipping your pet is one of the best ways to ensure their safe return if they get lost.

At 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗳𝘆’𝘀 visit yesterday, Nurse Nat checked that her microchip details were up to date on our file & the national database!

✨ Why Microchip?
* Permanent ID that can’t fall off or be removed.
* Helps shelters and vets reunite you with your pet quickly.

📝 Other Tips for Pet Identification:

🐱 Make sure your contact information is current both at your local vet & with the microchip company.

🐶 Use a collar with an ID tag.

(𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗳𝘆 had a really cool ID tag that says her mum is probably ugly crying if Saffy ever gets lost 😂! It gave us all a giggle 🤭 )

🦜 When updating your details, provide an alternative contact of someone who isn’t in your immediate family. That way, if your pet goes missing while you’re away, we can contact someone they are familiar with to keep them safe until you get home.
