So so proud of our team today 2 nd with Tappys Lad at eagle Farm over 2400 m huge effort bring on the Queensland’s Cup !! Next weekend!!!! And we made trip down to Gold Coast with Bobby as well ( Tappys One ) to build some confidence and win easy !!! Thanks to Paul Hamblin!!!

MAXIE TAP'S HALF-SISTER WINS GROUP II AT TE RAPA

Maxie Tap will race at the Tapanui meeting at Gore next Sunday as a stepping stone to the $60,000 Gore Guineas on January 22.

He won a maiden 1200 metres at Gore two starts back on October 27 and then had a luckless sixth in a rating 65 1220m at Cromwell on November 28.

Maxie Tap was unable to work clear in the final stages at Cromwell.

Isla Bank co-trainer Kerry Taplin said Maxie Tap was under offer to Australia.

Maxie Tap's half-sister, Wolverine, remained unbeaten in two starts when winning the Group II $110,000 Wakefield Challenge Stakes at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Ex-North Islander Renault will debut from the Taplin stable at the Riverton meeting on January 1.

Josh Shaw, of Levin, formerly trained the maiden. Renault will be raced by a syndicate.

Tappy's One has just returned to training after having a break following group racing in the North Island in the Spring.

Ritani, who finished fifth for Kerry and Ian Taplin, in the Group I $220,000 Windsor Park Plate at Hastings on October 2, is retired and in foal to Shocking.

MOVE TO ALERT LEVEL 2 JUST AS PLEASING AS WIN OF TAPPY'S ONE

The move to Alert Level 2 for areas outside Auckland announced by the New Zealand Government today was just as pleasing to Isla Bank trainers Kerry and Ian Taplin as the win of Tappy’s One in the $40,000 Garry McCormick Bin Hire Handicap (1600m) at Ashburton an hour later.

Tappy’s One led throughout under topweight of 61kg and held off stablemate Ritani by half a length. It was an outstanding effort by Ritani (58kg) who was trapped three wide.

The move to Alert Level 2 means the Taplins are able to firm up plans to race Tappy’s One and Ritani in the North Island.

They had to send Tappy’s One and Ritani to Ashburton with a commercial transport operator and could not attend the meeting under Level 3 restrictions.

“If we stay in Level 2 we will head north with the horses on September 19,’’ said Ian Taplin.

The Taplins plan to be based at Wanganui with Rochelle Lockett. The first target is the $80,000 Marton Metric Mile at Awapuni on September 25.

“We are more confident now that Tappy’s One proved himself on top of the ground today (a good (3) track),’’ said Ian.

“And the effort of Ritani was no less impressive.

“After Awapuni we look forward to the Windsor Park Plate (1600m on October 2) for both horses and Livamol Classic (2040m a fortnight later) for Tappy’s One at Hastings,” he added.

There is also a suitable race for Ritani at Rotorua on October 16.

Tappy’s One has been nominated for both races at Hastings.

“We are seriously thinking about paying the late entry ($1403) for Ritani in the Windsor Park Plate after her run today.”

The pair continued a run of success in the past four months. It was the seventh win and fourth open handicap for Tappy’s One and Ritani has won the $100,000 Winter Cup at Riccarton.
