It's that time of year again when eggs are hatching and baby snakes are making their debut. Over the weekend, we had attended an estate several times for multiple brown snakes from a communal area. On one of the occasions we had attended, One of the residents thought it was a good idea to put the snake in a coffee cup while they waited for us to arrive, as they did not believe it to be a juvenile Eastern Brown Snake.
Despite its striped appearance, which can be misleading to the public, it is extremely common for them to be stiped/banded. Juvenile Snakes are just as venomous as adults, and this little brown snake still has the potential to deliver a fatal bite. The member of the public who decided to get it into a coffee cup was extremely lucky not to have been bitten.
the snake pictured below is one we removed yesterday from inside the common area.
Remember, if you come across a snake, no matter how small or harmless it may seem, always exercise caution and contact a professional for assistance.
Common sense reminder: you leave them alone, they leave you alone.
