This lovely warmblood mare came in earlier in the year, with a plan to resume work undersaddle.
She had been initially started, trainer and campaigned, before being a broodmare with no consistent work for many years now, an injury in the mid, and most recently carrying her on foal, birthing, raising and weaning.
Part of her assessment recognised she functionally didn’t have carrying ability at the time, so addressing that was part of the first step - a postural relearning, some proprioception, and time to develop the strength.
I made and tweaked a program over several weeks, and when she was consistent with the exercises and we knew the direction of progressing the program, she went home to continue with her owner.
When she recently came back, WOW!
Huge respect and appreciation for the owner for putting in the hard yards.
Her posture was completely different, showing connection through her body and looked and moved like a horse that had a capacity to carry a rider.
I am a light weight rider, and am riding lightly - forward and soft seat, forward and soft hands, forward and soft connection through the horse.
Sessions with a rider are short, low impact and low energy. And she has done so well with her first couple of weeks of life back undersaddle.
It was not that long ago we were unwilling to comprise on saddling and riding, and now here she is at a point where we are not only willing to work with her undersaddle but can see and feel the befits of it, and know we can progress towards addressing everything we need to over time!
So rewarding to be a part of!
