Day 1

Pros and Cons - Training for Action or Abstinence

As trainers and handlers of dogs we are often faced with a choice of training a dog to DO something or to NOT DO something. During this presentation and throughout the practical work we will explore and investigate why someone might choose one approach over another. We will break down the process for choosing what the appropriate course of action is as we consider the pros and cons associated with both. Our ultimate goal is to develop a complete training program based on intentional choices rather than one limited by knowledge.

*A 50 minute preparation video will be provided via email to all attendees making this presentation suitable for all skill and knowledge levels.

Day 2

Modern training gives us a massive array of styles, systems and techniques all capable of achieving similar outcomes. The very first step is deciding how you show up for the dog. Throughout this presentation we will investigate the pros and cons of various styles as we journey through being completely detached and training like a robot all the way through to being your dog’s ultimate cheerleader. Our goal is to understand and practice choosing the right input to give the dog to get the output you desire.

🩺Campus sweetheart Dr Michelle untangled some myths from facts about Anxiety for us with all things neuroscience and medicine.

🧠It was some big braining for us that day!
Being that Dr Michelle is quite a skilled trainer, wielding a clicker and treat bag and deftly as her stethoscope and scalpel, she is savvy to showing us where these two worlds intersect, and empowered us to know where we as pet parents, professional trainers or vet practitioners can work together to make the most impact for the dogs and people we care for.

Avery packed a phenomenal amount of quality content into one day when they presented Precision Scent Detection for us this year! 🤯

🌿It was a big call summoning them away from their natural habitat, protecting our native forests searching for koalas and invasive weeds, in order to share with us a fraction of their knowledge.
We were all super grateful they made the journey for us!

How good was Shaz?! ❤️

Not too shabby for our first year here at The Canine Campus!
We jumped in at the deep end with a fair amount of trial and error and managed to pull off 5 events this past year.
Five wonderful presenters and five equally amazing audiences.
Thank you all so much for coming along and learning with us.

We are gearing up to release next year’s line up- so perhaps start dropping hints to the family that a couple of TCC tickets in the Christmas stocking would be way cooler than more socks and jocks!

The nervous system and how memory works Medications and their role Repetitive disorders Separation disorders Noise aversions + phobias Case studies As a veterinarian with a wealth of training experience, Dr. Michelle will talk through some of the causes of anxiety disorders, as well as possible management and treatment plans. We’ll explore some of the current scientific information around these conditions, and the crucial role of the trainer in changing behaviour for dogs with mental health challenges. You’ll learn to identify signs that behavioural modification is being hampered by the neural system in overdrive, as well as signs a medication plan could be helpful. We’ll cover real life case studies of things that have gone well, as well as the reality of cases that have been tough to manage.
