Canberra needs wildlife overpasses and we need them urgently.
In the meantime some more immediate action that the ACT Government could take is implementing dusk and dawn speed limits that are enforced by speed cameras, virtual fencing and putting speed bumps on all suburban roads that have high wildlife collisions.

Part of the heartbreaking story of Red Hill’s kangaroos 💔
#savecanberraskangaroos
Canberra’s kangaroos and joeys deserve the chance to be rescued and rehabilitated if found injured and then released somewhere where they will be safe from future harm 🦘❤️🩹

Kangaroos are the victims of the world’s largest land-based wildlife slaughter 💔
They get labelled as “pests” and “nuisances” or “profitable” for a dying pet and human food industry and are persecuted by governments, farmers and others.
These animals have lived on this land for millions of years, they are a First Nations totem, and they are an important part ot Australia’s ecosystems.
It’s time we all learn to co-exist and live in harmony with the animals that have lived on this country long before the colonisers arrived. They deserve to live a life free from harm.

Each night of the killing this year, reserve watchers were out at the reserves bearing witness to the shooting of our kangaroos 💔
It’s not an easy thing to do, both physically and mentally. You’re out there standing in the freezing cold listening for the gun shots and noting them down. The cracks of the shots are so loud, they make you jump and wince with each one. And you know that with each shot heard that a life has just been violently stolen.
You also catch glimpses of the shooters using their torches to locate the bodies and then dump them in the back of their trailers so they can drive off to find their next victims.
Every time you go back to the reserve now, all you can think of is the sounds of the gun shots and the pools of blood on the ground the next morning.
Reserve watchers were out at Red Hill during one night of the shooting last week and this is what they had to say…
