Prevention is better than cure!
Is your dog barking incessantly at the back fence? Tearing up the couch cushions the second your back is turned? Peeing on the rug?
Just don’t let them!
“But, they do it when I’m not watching?! How ca I stop them when I don’t see it?!”

It’s a two part solution and it’s the foundation of all good dog training.
1. CURE! Fulfill the unmet need.
Is your dog barking/destroying things/soiling indoors? He’s likely both overstimulated and addicted to seeking stimulation.
Provide novel and interesting activities with you that capture his attention. Hide and seek games, chase and catch games, food hunting, puzzles, digging in a sandpit for hidden toys, tug of war…

2. PREVENTION! Manage, DON’T micromanage your dogs activity.
Crates and pens can be introduced to be a quiet safe space for dogs to rest (dogs nap 18 hours in a 24 hour period). The majority of dogs are not getting enough quality sleep each day leading to restlessness and agitation and creating endless behavioural issues. Ensure they are getting adequate uninterrupted sleep and create a private cozy place for them to rest. This space should be contained, just like little kids, dogs need help to settle. Support them by creating a clear boundary.

Dogs needs 4-6 hours of multiple sessions of novel activity that fulfils biological needs, attention and affection, cardio exercise and relaxation AND 18 hours of restful sleep.

Just like a pair of shoes dogs can outgrow our service, even when we have raised them up here.
A dogs genetics predetermines many things about how they will express themselves and what their preferences will be. The environment will determine how much of these genetic needs will be fulfilled.
At BamBam & Co we provide a specific environment that will fulfil a specific group of dogs needs. But other dogs will have different needs, sometimes that will be apparent straight away and sometimes that shows up in a later stage of development.
This is a very normal and healthy need that the dog expresses and it is our job to notice and make informed recommendations to support the continued healthy development and fulfilment of the dogs entrusted to our care.

We are so fortunate to have a talented community of dog business who offer variations of a service like ours, and we often refer between each other.
Each one offers something unique and between all of us we collectively have something for almost every dog.

One of the cornerstones of our program is the stability of our social groups. We work hard to maintain consistency in our groups, as this is essential for fostering secure and positive relationships between dogs. By keeping the same core group, we help our students build trust and confidence in each other, which supports emotional self-mastery and healthier play interactions. Dogs who experience consistent, familiar playmates are more likely to engage in relaxed, enjoyable social exchanges, which ultimately contributes to their overall well-being.

When you enquire about an enrolment at BamBam & Co, you may be placed on a waitlist. This is because we endeavour to only introduce new dogs once we have established stability in the group.
Dobby is able to settle and find his place much easier because he is entering still waters as opposed to the choppy waters of an ever changing group of unfamiliar faces.

Dobby 🍭

Dobby, not unlike a lot of his sausage kin, can display some spicy looking behaviour and certain times.
And while aggression towards strangers can be a breed trait, we should always look to the emotion underlying the aggressive behaviours. In Dobby’s case, he is a sweet little guy who can feel unsure and insecure at times, and his genetics have given him feisty answers. We will be supporting Dobby to discover where he can use those spicy responses for good rather than evil and teach him a bunch of new solutions better suited to all those other questions!

But first we establish Dobby’s comfort zone and show him how recognise the path back to here. When Dobby feels comfortable, he will naturally feel braver about testing the edges of this zone. Our job will be to advocate strongly for him and ensure he feels safe in trying new things.
