Join us today as we walk Lake Burley Griffin for the Annual Flynns Walk. 🐶

Where: Commonwealth Place Upper, Parkes at 9:30am!

Why: Veterinarians and other veterinary staff face many unique and varied challenges in their line of work. We aim to build more compassion and understanding in the wider community and show support for the people who care for our pets.

Flynn's Walk is proudly supporting the wellbeing of the veterinary community through our grassroots events in memory of Dr Flynn Hargreaves (BVSc).

During the check, we’ll:

Assess your pet’s teeth and gums

Identify any early signs of dental disease

Give you tips for keeping their smile healthy at home

We’re excited to share that Melba Vet will be attending Flynn’s Walk – Canberra this weekend, and you’re invited to join us!

What’s Flynn’s Walk all about? It’s a FREE, community-driven event aimed at supporting the mental health and wellbeing of veterinary professionals. The walk includes a scenic 5 km loop around Lake Burley Griffin, starting from Commonwealth Place (Upper Parkes) and is set in the stunning National Triangle of Canberra. All ages and even dogs are welcome!

Here’s what you can look forward to:

- A short gathering from 9:30 am, with the walk beginning at 10:30 am
- Complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate to kick off the morning
- A free sausage sizzle at the end (with vego and gluten-free options available)
- A relaxed, friendly atmosphere that fosters conversation and community support for vet staff who often face immense emotional challenges.

Why it matters: Veterinary professionals face significantly high stress, burnout, and mental health pressures—Flynn’s Walk shines a light on these challenges and brings people together to show compassion and support. Every step helps raise awareness, build community, and foster meaningful connections.

🚨 Parvo Alert – Canberra 🚨

We have recently had a confirmed case of Canine Parvovirus (Parvo) in Canberra. This highly contagious and potentially life-threatening virus affects unvaccinated dogs, particularly puppies.

👉 Symptoms to watch for include:

Vomiting

Diarrhoea (often bloody)

Lethargy

Loss of appetite

💉 The best protection is vaccination. Please ensure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date, especially if they are young or have an unknown history.

🐾 If your dog is unwell or showing any of these signs, seek veterinary care immediately.
