🐾 Why Worming Your Pets is Essential for Their Health! 🐾

Regular worming treatments are a must to keep your pets happy and healthy. 🐶🐱
Here’s why it’s so important and what you need to know about the different types of worms that can affect them!

1. Roundworms: These common worms can be transmitted through soil, infected animals, or even a mother’s milk. They often cause a bloated belly, weight loss, and digestive problems in pets. 🚨

2. Hookworms: These tiny parasites latch onto the intestinal lining and suck blood. They can cause anaemia, weakness, and even be fatal in young pets. Pets can pick them up from contaminated soil or infected faeces. ⚠️

3. Tapeworms: Usually contracted by eating fleas or infected rodents, tapeworms can be spotted in your pet’s stool. They may cause mild symptoms, but can lead to poor coat condition and weight loss over time. 🪱

4. Whipworms: These parasites can cause severe gastrointestinal distress like diarrhea and weight loss, especially in dogs. They live in the large intestine and can be tough to diagnose. 😧

5. Heartworms: These dangerous worms are spread by mosquito bites and can cause severe damage to your pet’s heart, lungs, and blood vessels. Untreated, heartworms can lead to heart failure and death. Dogs are especially at risk, but cats can be affected too. 💔🦟

Why It Matters?
Worms don’t just affect your pets—they can pose a risk to you and your family too! 🏡 Regular worming treatments help protect against this, ensuring your furry friend stays worm-free and healthy.
🩺

How Often Should You Worm?
Most pets should be treated every 3 months, but puppies, kittens, and high-risk animals may need more frequent treatments. Check with your vet for a schedule tailored to your pet’s needs! 🗓️

Take care of your pet’s health and keep them protected with regular worming treatments. 🐾❤️

Meet Chopper. He's looking a little sad in this photo but that's because he was in a whole lot of discomfort when we were contacted to help him. Poor Chopper had sustained injuries to his paws and every step was painful. His loving family didn't have the funds for an emergency vet visit, but knew he couldn't go without treatment. They took Chopper to ARH Canberra and the emergency team were able to provide the medical care Chopper needed. We were glad to be able to contribute to the cost of Choppers treatment.

We know how slow paws can be to heal, so we hope Chopper is resting well and keeping off his feet as much as a dog can do! Get well soon Chopper.

☀️ A Busy Day at Karabar !☀️

What a beautiful change in weather on Wednesday!
The sunny skies and calm winds were a welcome relief from the chaotic days we've had.
It was a full-on day at the clinic, with Dr. Eloise and nurse Mish working tirelessly for over 3 hours without a break. 👩‍⚕️👩‍⚕️
We had so many pets needing care, and every single one got the attention they deserved. 🐾

From regular arthritis treatments to vaccinations, we saw it all today. Little BJ napped through the wait but certainly made his displeasure known during his vaccination and microchip placement! 😾 No hard feelings though – a cuddle and his new cozy blue coat made everything better. 💙
Miss Molly was equally snug in her handmade blanket, kindly donated by one of our wonderful supporters. 🧶💖

A few pets came in for blood tests – a service that Dr. Eloise offers to help diagnose various ailments our furry friends may face. 🩺
Tiny Maverick was very brave during his blood test and gave us a cheeky raspberry on his way out. 😛

‼️ Important Reminder ‼️
We want to keep everyone safe and happy, which is why we have some important rules.
🔴 All dogs MUST be on a lead and under control at ALL times – a dog dragging its lead is **NOT ** under control. 🐕
🔴 Cats must stay in their carriers until safely inside the clinic, where they can relax and get used to their surroundings. 🐱
🔴 We will not tolerate any abuse towards our volunteers or other clients.
🔴 Anyone under the influence of alcohol or substances who becomes belligerent will be asked to leave and will no longer have access to our services.

The Tiny Vet Clinic is run by Dr. Eloise and an amazing team of volunteers who dedicate their time to helping those in need. 💖

We don't operate by appointment, and we triage each case based on urgency. If a volunteer makes a request, please follow it politely. If a sicker pet needs to be seen before a routine vaccination, please be patient – you'll still be seen, it might just take a little longer. ⏳

Let's be kind, respectful, and appreciative – it costs nothing but means everything! 💕🙏

Thank you to everyone who continues to support ACT Pet Crisis Support the Tiny Vet Clinic!
You're all pawsome! 🐾

🐾 **Puppy Love at the Karabar Clinic!** 🐾

It was a day filled with wagging tails and puppy eyes at Karabar Kapers on 21.8.24! We welcomed heaps of adorable puppies, many of them here for their very first vaccinations and microchips, while others came in for their boosters. And let’s not forget the older dogs, who also showed up like the champs they are for their health checks and booster shots. 🐶💉

Vaccinations are just the start of the responsibilities that come with owning a pet. Regular vet visits, parasite control, and desexing are all crucial to keep our furry friends healthy and happy. Rescues and pounds are overflowing with pets needing homes, so being responsible about preventing unwanted litters is a must. 🏥🐾

In today’s financial climate, it’s important to consider whether we can meet the ongoing expenses of pet ownership before bringing a new fur baby into the family. That “free” puppy or kitten could easily require $500 to $1000 in the first year alone for food, vaccinations, desexing, and more—without any unexpected vet bills! Being realistic about these costs helps prevent pets from ending up in pounds or rescues because their owners couldn’t afford to care for them. 💸

Let’s all strive for smart, responsible pet ownership. Our pets give us so much love; it’s up to us to give them the care they deserve! 🐾💙

🎉 **Ainslie Antics with the Tiny Vet Clinic!** 🌧️🐾

Despite the drizzling rain, our resilient friends made their way to see Dr. Eloise Bright and her team of volunteers ! 💪
The wait time was just enough for some friendly chats and plenty of pet admiration—because let’s face it, nothing beats the company of adorable animals! 🐶🐱

We had a wonderful mix of patients, from the tiniest pups to the seasoned seniors.
🐶 Little Maggie came in for her very first puppy vaccination, while our lovely seniors, Bobby Girl and Chopper, received their arthritis treatments. It was great to see such a range of ages getting the care they need! 🌟

We also met shy girl Sage, visiting for the first time to get her vaccination and chat about her anxiety around people. Luckily, Dr. Eloise is a pro in pet behavior, so Sage’s mum left with some solid advice on how to help her furry friend feel more at ease. 🐾💬

The day turned into a feline fiesta, with most of our visitors being curious cats! Jelly and Freya came in for their vaccinations and health checks, young Vin had a little skin condition that needed attention, and poor Cosimo had a bit of a misadventure with a hot stove, resulting in some burnt paw pads. 😿🔥

Let this be a reminder to all pet parents: protecting our pets from misadventures can be a challenge, but it’s so important! Keep things like ribbons and hair bands safely tucked away, as they can cause serious issues if swallowed. And always keep an eye on hot appliances—cats love to explore, but stoves and BBQs can be dangerous. Make sure your BBQs are covered after use to avoid any burnt noses or paws! 🐾💡

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather and brought their pets in for care! If you missed out, don’t worry—we’ll be back next week at Karabar!

🌞 Sunshine & Smiles at Tiny Vet Clinic this week!🌞

Our Karabar Kapers clinic on Wednesday was a breath of fresh air—literally! 🌬️ After a few windy weeks, the sun graced us with its warmth, and our furry friends were in top spirits.
It's a perfect reminder that as the weather warms up, allergy season is right around the corner. 🌸

🌾 Allergy Alert: If your pet has been itching, scratching, or showing signs of discomfort, it might be time to visit us at Tiny Vet Clinic!

🔴 Red, itchy feet and ears, hair loss, and dry skin could all be signs of allergies. Dr. Eloise Bright and our team are here to help! Just ask Harry the bulldog, who’s already on the mend after a visit for his skin irritation. 🐾

🐶 Clinic Stars: Marma, Molly, and Max all dropped by with allergy concerns, and our youngest patients, Gypsy Rose and Spliff, showed bravery beyond their years for their puppy vaccinations. Meesha and Dougie were in for their annual boosters, keeping them safe for another year! 💉

🐾 Recheck Roundup: Boston and Tilly made their return for rechecks, and Boston couldn’t resist the treats!
Roxy and Buster, our cheeky Chihuahua duo, along with the elegant Luna, stopped in for a quick mani-pedi. Politeness was rewarded with delicious treats, of course! 🍪

Got a pet with allergy concerns or just due for a check-up? Don’t hesitate to check out our criteria for treatment and fill out an online registration form - link in bio or ⤵️

Helping Disadvantaged Pet Owners

ACT Pet Crisis Fund is a registered not for profit charity supporting disadvantaged pet owners with pets.

We rely on entirely on donations from animal lovers to assist pet owners that would otherwise need to euthanase or surrender their pet due to financial concerns. You can donate to the fund here.

We work in cooperation with local vet clinics and the RSPCA to assist pet owners in Canberra, Queanbeyan and surrounding areas. More information can be found on our website: actpetcrisisfund.com

For many people, isolated from family and friends, their pet is what keeps them going. When faced with a medical emergency for their pet, sadly many pet owners are unable to afford treatment and their beloved pet has to be euthanased or surrendered.
