🎄🐾 George the Christmas Miracle Kitty! 🐱❤️

This holiday season, kids everywhere will be watching the skies and making their wishes—and George the cat knows all about kids! He shares his home with six of them! 🧒👧
Imagine the excitement and love filling his house this time of year.

But just a few weeks ago, George's Christmas nearly didn’t happen. 😿
He was viciously attacked by a dog, suffering severe injuries to his leg. His family faced an impossible choice: amputate his leg or say goodbye forever. 💔

Thankfully, George’s family gave him a second chance. While adjusting to life as a three-legged kitty wasn’t easy, George’s resilience has been truly inspiring! 🐾💪 Anyone who’s had a “tripawd” pet knows how incredibly well they adapt — and George is already back on his paws, thriving with the love and care of his family.

With six little ones to care for, George’s owner, a dedicated solo mum, needed some extra help. That’s where ACT Pet Crisis Support came in, providing $1500 towards his life-saving surgery. Big thanks to the amazing team at Gungahlin Vet who performed George’s surgery and helped him recover. 🏥👏

This Christmas, George will be soaking up extra cuddles from his family, proving that love and determination can overcome even the toughest challenges. ❤️🎁

🎄🐾 Keep Christmas Cheerful & Safe for Your Pets! 🐶🐱

Ah, Christmas—a time for family, friends, generosity, and of course, delicious festive feasts! 🧀🍇
In Australia, the summer cheese platter is a crowd favorite (just keep it out of the sun! ☀️). But as we indulge, let’s not forget to keep an eye on our furry family members.

Take little Chorizo the Dachshund, for example. Despite his tasty name, this adorable pup recently experienced a painful bout of pancreatitis—likely caused by rich or high-fat foods. Pancreatitis can make pets seriously unwell, and during the holidays, many pets end up in hospital after sneaking a feast. 😔

Chorizo’s family worked tirelessly with their vet to give him the care he needed, and when the costs became overwhelming, the compassionate team at CVES reached out to ACT Pet Crisis Support or help.
Thanks to this community effort, Chorizo got back on his paws and is now home, happily recovering with his loving family (and strictly supervised treats). 💕

🎅 But here’s the thing—pancreatitis season is no joke❗️
Every year in the lead up to, during and after Christmas, vet clinics are full of dogs and cats who’ve had a bit too much festive cheer.
Let’s keep our furry friends safe:
🦴 No fatty foods like ham, bacon, or cheese.
🍫 Chocolate is toxic for dogs — stash it and keep it out of reach of your pets!
🗑️ Secure your bins so curious noses can’t rummage.
🌸 Cat owners — beware of Christmas Lilies, which are highly toxic to cats. Even a small amount of pollen can cause organ failure.

Let’s make this holiday season memorable for all the right reasons! 🎁

Any Doberman or Dalmatian owners that can assist ARH?

Update* - We have found a compatible donor. Thank you everyone ❤️

Doberman and Dalmatian owners 🚨🚨

Due to a rare blood type found in Doberman breeds that can cause them to be incompatible with most universal blood types found in our usual donor breeds, we are currently in URGENT need of a canine blood donor, ideally of Doberman or Dalmatian breed to help a very sick patient 🐶

They must also meet the following criteria to be able to donate:
- between the ages of 2 and 8 years
- weighing over 25kgs
- up to date with all vaccinations and parasite preventions
- in good overall health
- have not donated blood in at least 3 months

Our donor dogs receive a full health and blood check before donating and you will receive a large bag of food and some yummy treats as a thank you.

If you think your dog could help, please call reception to have a chat with one of our friendly staff members on (02)6280 6344.

🧐 Did you know that our Charity is a very small one with 8 committee members and a few wonderful volunteers. All funds raised go to pets in need and we have no paid employed staff. We are all volunteers!
Whilst we sometimes receive amazing grants essentially we do all our own fundraising. We love what we do but we do rely on all your amazing generosity to support us. So……….

‼️☀️ IT’s GOING TO BE VERY HOT TODAY >37c ☀️‼️

It's going to be extremely hot across all of the Canberra Region and most of Australia tomorrow with temperatures soaring into the 40s and beyond.
Please, please, please do not take your dogs for a walk in the heat of the day! 🔥
Not only can this burn their feet, they can suffer from heatstroke very quickly. Don't risk it! 🥵

☀️Do not leave pets in cars, even if in the shade with windows cracked.
Most importantly if you see a pet unattended in a car please call 000 immediately.

☀️Walks should be very early or very late once the sun has gone down.
If the ground is too hot for bare human feet, it is too hot for dogs to be walking. 🔥

☀️Ensure your pet has access to plenty of fresh cool water and shade. Use cooling mats and frozen treats.
If possible, please bring your pet inside in the air conditioning.

☀️Keep a close eye on very young or very old pets. Small pets like rabbits and birds are also more susceptible to heatstroke.

☀️Learn the signs of heat stress and heat stroke; constant panting, weakness / stumbling and reluctancy to get up, lethargy, shaking, dry nose and gums and excessive salivating.

Also, if you live in a fire prone area, now is a great time to review your fire plan safety and evacuation plan.

🎄🐾 Tiny Vet Clinic Ainslie Antics Wrap-Up 🐾🎄

Wow, what a turnout for our last clinic of the year at Ainslie Village! 🙌
A massive thanks to Dr. Helen for joining Dr. Eloise to help as many pets as possible before our Christmas and New Year break. 🎅💉

With support from Shalyn and Kara, Dr. Helen worked tirelessly to vaccinate, worm, microchip, treat sore ears, and provide arthritis care to over a dozen pets! 🩺✨ Your generosity and expertise throughout the year have been invaluable. 💖🐶🐱

Here are a few highlights from the day:

⭐ Sir Buster the chihuahua made a heroic return for his annual vaccination, along with a tale of bravery (and mischief)! 🦸‍♂️🐾
After defending his castle from a “dragon” (a lizard) by smashing through a closed window, he escaped with just a headache—though his mum now has a window repair bill. 🪟🐉

⭐ Alby the Koolie wasn’t too thrilled about his vaccination (he let out a squeal 😅) but quickly forgave us when we offered a tasty treat! 🍖🐕

⭐ Helga the Wolfhound-cross pup melted hearts with her gorgeous looks and sweet demeanor. 🐶💕 Her dad calls her his pride and joy… most days! 😜👑

⭐ Poor Indi went home with the dreaded cone of shame after we treated an aural hematoma (a swelling in her ear). Don’t worry, Indi—better days are ahead! 🐾💖

It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces and welcome new ones! Despite the clinic running a little longer than usual, the teamwork from Dr. Helen, Dr. Eloise, and Nurse Mish ensured every pet received the care they needed. 👏🐾

Now it’s time for our Tiny Vet Clinic Team of Dr. Eloise, Nurse Mish and our amazing volunteer team to enjoy a well-deserved rest over the holidays. 🛋️🎅

Thank you to everyone who trusted us with their pets this year. We’ll see you in 2025! 🐾✨
