We had a bunch of adorable baby blue tongue lizards brought into us after a dog attack. We assessed them and the healthy bubs were released back in to their natural habitat after lapping up some watermelon. ๐๐ชจ ๐

โผ๏ธItโs grass seed seasonโผ๏ธ
Check your dog over regularly for grass seeds.
Inspect the whole body, focusing particularity on the paws, ears, eyes, mouth and nostrils.
If a grass seed breaks the skin you will see redness and swelling.
Grass seeds can be very dangerous and work their way further into the animals body if left untreated.
Contact your Vet if you're worried your dog has a grass seed.
๐ญ๐Leptospirosis๐๐ญ
Sadly, there has been a fatal case of Leptospirosis in the ACT/Queanbeyan region.
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection which has been on the rise since the recent rains and mice plagues. It can be transmitted through your dog drinking from stagnant water or contact with another infected dog. It typically presents as your pet generally being unwell, vomiting and feverish before rapidly progressing to kidney and liver failure. Leptospirosis can unfortunately be passed onto humans. Cats can also be affected, however, it is very rare.
Fortunately, there is a vaccine available for dogs involving two initial doses 2-4 weeks apart with ongoing annual boosters. There is currently no available vaccination for cats. Please call us on (02) 6113 0542 to book in your vaccination appointment.

Poor Pepper came in after her Mum noticed she had something lodged up her nose, she was sneezing lots and feeling uncomfortable.
After harmlessly eating some grass she regurgitated it up. The blade went behind the soft palate into the nasal chamber rather than exiting the mouth. Which caused irritation.
Dr. Damien sedated her and slowly pulled the blade of grass out, making sure not to leave any behind.
Pepper went home feeling much more comfortable and happy! ๐โโฌ
