This little sweetheart is Billie, she came in today after a fragment of bone got stuck in her mouth. 🦴

After a few attempts to remove the bone while conscious it was decided that the bone was too far lodged and little Billie would need some light sedation for it to be removed.

Billie received some minor sedation which was just enough for her to lie still and for the Vets to dislodge the bone. Billie was very lucky and no damage was left to her teeth or mouth.

Yesterday the CVH team took some well deserved time away from the clinic to enjoy their Christmas party! 🎄

The team work so hard all year round and the holiday season is always one of our busiest times, so having some social time away to enjoy each others company was much needed 🥂

Meet Dr Clara Wilkins! 🐈

Dr Clara has been a Vet for 5 years and has been here with us at CVH for nearly 4 of those. If you have had the privilege of meeting Dr Clara, you would know about her love for cats, Dr Clara has even adopted 3 of our previous adoption kittens!
Dr Clara especially enjoys the surgery aspect of her job and is a fantastic surgeon who has recently completed her training in orthopaedic surgeries and has undertaken both cruciate repairs and fracture repair surgeries.

As of tomorrow, Canberra Vet Hospital have excitingly partnered with Vet Vision to provide specialist Ophthalmology services in Canberra!

Each Wednesday we will have the privilege of having the experienced Veterinary Ophthalmologists Dr Matt Annear and Dr Sarah Coall of Vet Vision provide a full-service ophthalmology department here at CVH!

The Vet Vision team will be providing specialist ophthalmology consultations as well as Opthalmic surgeries using their state-of-the-art human grade equipment.

We are looking forward to them joining us each week, and excited to learn any new skills they can share with the CVH team!

Pet safety in the heat ☀️🥵

As the days get warmer and warmer it's important to remember that our pets can suffer from the heat as well.
Heat stroke in pets can be a real emergency and requires vet attention.
Ensure your pet has plenty of access to shade and water, and you limit their exercise to cooler parts of the day.
Leaving out a small bowl of water for our wildlife is always appreciated too! ❤

Over the next few weeks we will be spotlighting our amazing team members, and lucky Dr Rob Sampson is first up!

Dr Rob has been a Vet for an incredible 20 years and has been part of the CVH family since 2021. Dr Rob has a wealth of knowledge and is our go to man for nearly everything! Dr Rob is our inhouse ultrasonographer and has also just completed his training in echocardiograms. 🐾

Snake season is here, and unfortunately little miss Maisie was our first case of the season! 🐍

Maisie's lovely family rushed her to us earlier this week after they found her collapsed in their back yard.
Upon arrival Maisie was stable, but very wobbly on her feet, and with the history of vomiting, diarrhoea and collapsing at home, our suspicions for a snake bite were high!
After testing some of Maisie's blood, our suspicions were confirmed and Maisie received snake antivenom immediately.

Maisie came in for her recheck today and we are happy to report she is doing well! It was the quick response of her family and our team that ensured Maisie had a positive outcome! ♥

'Snuggles' the kelpie getting snuggles from nurse Bodine! 💓

Snuggles has been in hospital with us for a few days after a trip down the coast ended with two paralysis ticks latching onto Snuggles.

Snuggles started vomiting and becoming wobbly on her legs after her and her family returned from the coast. Snuggles was taken to one of the amazing emergency clinics where two paralysis ticks were found and removed. Snuggles then received tick antiserum and supportive care. She has been with us each day since as we continue to care for her.

Paralysis ticks can be deadly and if left untreated can cause deterioration to the point of respiratory paralysis requiring mechanical ventilation, but luckily the antiserum is working wonders for Snuggles and she continues to improve each day!

If you and your furry friend are heading to any tick prone areas, don't forget to make sure they are up to date with their tick prevention.
