In honour of tomorrow, we’re excited to spotlight our fabulous CEO, Dr Samantha Allan! 🌟

Sam has been a powerhouse in the ag space since her first foray into the sector at 17 as a jillaroo in western Qld. Since then, Sam has worked in private veterinary practice in NSW and South Yorkshire, England, before moving into government veterinary roles for over 14 years, including the role of Deputy CVO. She has been working in the national emergency management space at AHA for seven years.

Sam’s always been comfortable and confident in the ag space and is making strides in strengthening the animal health and biosecurity system as AHA’s CEO. On her experience as a woman in the sector, Sam said it's important to be confident in your ability and show your initiative by stepping up and having a go. If you expect to succeed you will. Support others in creating a respectful workplace and always call out unprofessional behaviour if you encounter it.

Sam has some sage advice for younger women looking to work in ag.
✅ Be selective about your first job – a place with great culture where young people are supported and encouraged will be a much better start than a place that pays the highest wages or has the flashiest set-up but poor culture.
✅ Find a mentor – someone you look up to and trust, and who has time to catch up with you regularly. They can provide advice and encouragement as well as introduce you to their networks.

Agriculture Victoria has confirmed H7N8 high pathogenicity avian influenza (bird flu) on a fourth poultry farm in Euroa.

More info below 👇

A fourth property in the Euroa area has been confirmed positive with H7 avian influenza (bird flu).

This detection is in close proximity to the 3 previously confirmed sites and is not unexpected.

The current restricted area is approximately 5 km around the infected properties and includes Euroa.

All movements of birds, bird products and related equipment into, within or out of the restricted and control areas are prohibited unless under a permit. You do not need a permit to buy chicken meat and eggs from a retailer for personal use.

If you are in the restricted area and have 50 birds or more you must keep your birds enclosed in sheds or cages to separate them from wild birds.

Housing your birds helps reduce the risk of spreading avian influenza, however good biosecurity practices are encouraged.

Please continue to report any cases of unexplained bird deaths to the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226.
