‼️ TRIGGER WARNING ‼️

Sadly, a kitty (unknown age/sex etc) has been brought into our clinic as it was found on the side of the road - we suspect vehicular trauma from the injuries sustained 💔

Due to the severity of the injuries, we cannot find a microchip and therefore unable to track down the kitty’s owner. This was his/her collar.

If anyone recognises this collar, please contact our clinic asap. The Air Tag has been buzzing so we know that her/his family have been looking for their loved one 💔💔

Please spread the word as we know there is a worried pet parent/s out there.

LOCATION: Redlands City Council (possibly around Capalaba, QLD)

We open at 7am tomorrow, or an email can be sent to [email protected]

24/06/2024

Chickens have some pretty clever ways of beating the winter chill, but they may still need your help. Like all birds, chickens use their feathers for insulation by fluffing them up and trapping the air. But for the times when nature is hard to predict, good pet care involves providing appropriate refuge.

❄️Insulation❄️
In cold parts of Australia, you could insulate your chicken coop with tree branches, cardboard, or straw. Care should be taken if hay or straw is used for insulation, as these can become infested with mold and vermin and carry chicken parasites. Also, remember to keep the insulation tidy. Keeping the coop clean and dry is essential as most bacteria, fungi, and parasites thrive in warm, moist environments.

☀️Warmer climates☀️
If you live in one of the warmer Australian states then you probably won’t need to install insulation in your chicken coop at all. Open, ventilated coops are more important. Learn more tips on coop setup on our website, or alternatively, visit your local Greencross Vets for expert advice.

Bringing your cat to the vet can sometimes be stressful, for you and your cat. But it doesn’t have to be! 🐈‍⬛

Cats are independent animals and they like to be in control of their environment. Any unfamiliar sights and smells can upset them. Here are some helpful hints to make visits to the vet clinic less stressful. 💚

Winter is here! We feel it's going to be a super cold one, and chances are if you are feeling cold your furry friend is too.

Here are some ways to keep your pet warm in the Winter:

💚Keep your pet inside
💚Provide a warm, soft, elevated bed
💚Warm coats are great for pets that are senior, small or have thin coats
💚Move your guinea pigs hutch inside the house or garage
💚Provide extra straw and hay so small pets can burrow and hide
💚Keep all bedding dry
💚Wrap a loose blanket over your pet, but don’t tuck them in. They still need to be able to move away from it if they overheat
💚Walk your furry friend during the day when it’s not as cold

🚨 Attention Pet Owners! 🚨

Emergency and Specialty Vets are sounding the alarm about the rise in paralysis ticks affecting our pets. 🐾 With the unseasonal warmth lingering into autumn and rain, the conditions are ripe for these dangerous pests.
At Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) Gosford, several beloved pets have tragically lost their lives due to severe tick paralysis. Dr. Natashia Evans, an Emergency and Critical Care Specialist at ARH Gosford, emphasises the importance of year-round parasite prevention, even as we transition into winter.

Skipping prevention can lead to devastating consequences.
Even a delay of just one or two days can put your pet at risk. Set reminders, and if in doubt, administer prevention a couple of days early.

Pet owners are urged to perform daily tick checks, as early detection can save lives.

For emergency assistance, contact your nearest animal hospital: https://www.emergencyvet.com.au/contact-us.html

💚 As winter sets in and the temperature drops, vets often see an increase in arthritis cases in both young and old animals. Sadly, the majority of these pets go undiagnosed and untreated as their owners don’t understand the reality of this condition. However, pets experience real pain with arthritis, comparable to the pain experienced by humans with this disease.

💚 Early detection and proactive treatment are essential to ensure your pet’s comfort and quality of life as they age.

💚 If you would like to know more, contact your local Greencross Vets for more information.

EXCITING ANNOUCEMENT *

Next month, Dr Tina and our Practice Manager, Nurse Davina will be going on an amazing adventure to South Africa to take part in a Wildlife Conservation Safari. Working with a small group on this conservation tour, Tina and Davina will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get involved in common wildlife conservation procedures that contribute to national conservation efforts. They are excited to meet and learn from local ecologists about the efforts being made to preserve the beautiful wildlife of South Africa.

In preparation of this trip, we thought it would a cool idea to hold a clinic fundraiser to raise money for the conservation efforts as we know that every little bit counts 🙏

To that end, we want to announce our 🐣 EASTER RAFFLE 🐣 held in clinic:

For our canine furriends:
🥇 doggy goodies worth over $400
🥈 worth over $275
🥉 worth over $150

For our feline furriends:
🥇 cat goodies worth over $350
🥈 worth over $200
🥉 worth over $125

Tickets are available for purchase in clinic at Greencross Vets Capalaba:
🐾 ONE ticket for $5
🐾 THREE tickets for $10
🐾 FIVE tickets for $20
We are taking CASH ONLY 💵

You can choose to enter either the dog competition or the cat competition (or split between both if you purchase multiple tickets) 😸
