151 horses lost their lives on Australian racetracks between 1 August 2023 and 31 July 2024.
116 greyhounds have lost their lives on Australian racetracks in 2024 so far.
That’s not including the animals that the industry discards in the tens of thousands every year, branded “wastage”, no longer fit to risk their lives for a flutter.
We have to believe that one day we’ll see an end to all this senseless suffering ❤️🩹
Today, and every day, we stand in solidarity with our friends in racehorse rescue and rehabilitation - unpaid volunteers relying on the generous donations of kind hearted community members, trying to clean up the mess of a multi-million dollar taxpayer funded industry.
Please join us in saying #NupToTheCup ❌ today we are marking the occasion by using our platform to say thank you (and we see you!) to those who are doing the work to help save the lives of racehorses through their work in rescue or advocacy, and encourage our followers to support them however you can, whether that is raising funds or raising awareness, every small action makes a big impact!:

Brian ate and left no crumbs ✨
Speaking of eating, we don’t just offer food for our fosters but also cover any and all vet bills or medication! We provide a foster kit (filled with toys, a cosy jacket and any extras you may need), one-on-one support from our gorgeous foster coordinators and our certified behaviourist. We ensure there is plenty of opportunities to socialise and get support from our fabulous community at our regular markets too 🧡

"Kit said one of the best things that Greyhounds bring to the foster experience is their big, weird personalities with which people really connect."
Gumtree Greys Co-ordinator Kit had the pleasure of sitting down with Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds for Australian Dog Lover highlighting June as National Foster A Pet Month, and chatting about what greyt quirky companions hounds make (featuring the late Sid, our pickle dipping pro!) 🧡
Read all about it, and the amazing work of our friends Greyhound Adoptions WA, Friends of the Hound - Greyhound Adoption Group, and Homeward Bound Hounds 👉 https://www.australiandoglover.com/2024/05/the-community-spirit-behind-fostering.html

😍 The look of love!
At Gumtree Greys we truly value the connections within our community 🧡 our regular market stalls are not just a greyt place to get free advice and support from our qualified behavioural consultant and experienced team of co-ordinators, but a place where our foster carers often get surprised with visits from their adopted hounds in their loving new homes. It is a special thing to watch them reunite, and a reminder of why we do what we do - to ensure these amazing dogs will be absolutely surrounded by love (and family) for the rest of their lives.
👉 If you are ready to experience the magic of foster caring, apply today, or comment on this post and we’ll get in touch.
This Saturday (18 May) we’ll be serving up the cutest snoots you can poke a microphone at 👉 so tag a friend and tell them to come on down and meet the crew!
