⭐️ Social city slicker seeks permanent employment as "WFH snootervisor" or "neighbourhood greeter" ⭐️

Meet Woody! This sweet six year old lad transitioned from paddock to inner city apartment with ease, and hasn't looked back since! 🧡 Embracing all the sights, sounds, and smells of the busy streets - he particularly relishes the opportunity to meet so many new human besties on his strolls! Other dogs he isn't overly fussed about, while he is polite and gentle in his interactions with breeds of all sizes, he is much more excited about the people on the other end of the lead.

A cosmopolitan hound, Woody is more than happy to snooze the day away (with access to a balcony toilet as he needs), so long as there are adventures to be had when the work day is done - he travels well in the car and on the train, loves to get out and see new places, and is quite the water baby (although not a competent swimmer, he really loves a paddle in the shallows).

With his calm and confident manner, Woody could easily fit into a range of households; he would love to be your WFH snootervisor, or better yet accompany you into the office (life as a much loved 'shop dog', greeting all your customers? His dream!), he'd also happily wait at home a few hours if you can pop in during your lunch to break up the day.

The 1st of February has become known as World Galgo Day (Día Del Galgo), it marks the end of the hunting season in Spain, when tens of thousands of Galgos and Podencos (often referred to as “Spanish greyhounds”) will be discarded or brutally killed 💔

At Gumtree Greys we stand in solidarity with our friends across the Pacific who are dedicated to helping Galgos, Podencos and other hunting breeds. Like racing industry raised greyhounds, the vast majority of these dogs have never been inside of a home, they are bred in kennels and do not have the same socialisation opportunities as domesticated dogs. Rescuers often have the added challenge of tracking and trapping frightened dogs who have been abandoned, before they can begin healing their physical and mental wounds to prepare them for their new lives as well loved pets. It takes a vast amount of resources for their rehabilitation, and our hearts go out to the amazing humans making a difference however they can.

We don’t have any markets or walks scheduled this weekend, but we DO have the first of our Maffra rescues meeting their potential forever homes 🥳 please keep your fingers and paws crossed for them (and if you’d like to be the first in line for these super snoots, jump into the comments for a link to our adoption application form).

On the day we visited the Maffra property, the boys in their kennels greeted us with boisterous enthusiasm - all that is, except Max. The very picture of hangdog, he stood quietly at the gate, a little unsure of all the commotion, but with a waggly tail that belied his sullen demeanor.

🧡 How life has changed in just a few short weeks! With a belly full of SavourLife treats, and the customary Freedom Nuggie, Max settled in to snooze through the long drive to Castlemaine to start his life as a well loved pet thanks to his fabulous foster carers.

Since arriving, he has discovered the joys of a cosy couch filled with toys and taking a dip in the pond. He has mastered stairs and a dog door, learned to ignore the quails in their coop, and with the help of his greyhound foster siblings is building his confidence out in the world (even politely meeting a calm small dog!). He's come so far in such a short time, and is growing into his cheeky and sweet personality.

Oh Ricky, you’re so fine 😍

We just knew this nibbly little smoocher was going to be a real lovebug when liberated from his kennel - and upon meeting his foster carer he wasted no time in proving us right!

It’s been nearly a week of our new arrivals settling in, and they all grow more confident, goofy, and curious with each day! 🧡 We love seeing the updates of them enjoying their soft beds, new toys, and yummy treats.

Recent arrival, Woody the Woolly, issued a challenge to his foster carer - see if you can locate the black hound you were supposed to be receiving! 😂

David rose to the occasion spectacularly, and after a fun spa day Woody is now feeling kilos lighter, giving us a glimpse of the shiny noir noodle he’s going to become.

🐾 All 11 snoots from Saturday’s rescue are settling into care and kicking goals in their first few days, stay tuned to our socials for more updates!

Hurricane warning ⚠️ this one's at least a category 5 on the cute snoot scale.

Meet Baby James! Like any ten month old, he has two settings, chaos and asleep (he plays hard, and he snoozes even harder) 🌪 with his remarkably cute face, and sweet loving manner, you'll find it hard to stay mad about the odd chewed up shoe - but the ideal home for this handsome fellow will have experience with (and resilience to) rambunctious puppy energy and will delight in finding ways to keep this curious mind busy.

A couch potato he is not, this bundle of fun and energy has his whole life ahead of him and will teach you the art of living in all the small moments of joy to be had 🧡 the home that James gets to spend his forever in will always be filled with laughs, love, and the sound of big stompy feet!
