Hi everyone from the team here at Healthy Pets! Some of you may have heard in the news that there is a national shortage of cat vaccines for the forseeable future (possible ETA for February).

We are now ONLY prioritising kittens between 6-12 weeks. WE ONLY HAVE A VERY SMALL CURRENT STOCK ๐Ÿ’‰ ๐Ÿ’‰

So if your vaccination schedule has been consistent over your cats life - we are waiting until we have access to supply again before vaccinating. If you are unsure on your adult cats vacc status, housing your cat indoors only at this time may be the safest option.

We know this comes at a tricky time for people heading on holidays and requiring cattery stays for their pets. Please give us a call and chat with the team to discuss your options if you face this issue. We also have composed a waiting list to be contacted when vaccines are available again, phone us to join this list.

Statement from the Australian Veterinary Association: โ€œAdult cats that have had a series of 2-3 kitten vaccines and an annual booster are at much lower risk of vaccine-preventable infectious disease, as studies have demonstrated extended duration of immunity. Delaying boosters for adult cats until supply normalises in early 2024 is unlikely to have significant impact on their wellbeing, though this should be assessed on a case-by-case basis according to the individual cat's risk profile.โ€

Until then, we still recommend that all cats are booked in for their annual health check-up to aid in picking up early signs of infection/diseases.
We thank you for your understanding and enjoy the festive season ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿผ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿฑ๐ŸŽ„

We think this is a very important topic. Sophieโ€™s parents created Sophieโ€™s legacy. Sophie was a young veterinarian who lived life to the fullest but due to pressure, workplace stress and client abuse she sadly took her own life. Sophie's Legacy

โ€œThere is evidence that the veterinary industry is in a mental health crisis.
In the past 30 years the risk of su***de in veterinary professionals has been reported to have steadily increased.
A report published in 2008 reports that veterinarians and staff are four times more likely to die by su***de than the general population. Sophie was one of these statistics. We want to reverse this trend.โ€

โ€œTaking the pledge increases awareness of the issues within the industry and encourages respectful interactions with vets.โ€

Did you know that long coated and curly dogs such as poodles/poodle crossโ€™s usually grow hair inside their ear canals? ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป

This can be problematic and lead to painful ear infections. The hair can create a moist environment for bacteria to easily grow, trapping wax & debris along with water and dirt. Loose hair in the canal can plug up and travel down to the ear drum which is very painful! By plucking the ears we open up the canal and it can help be a preventative for future ear troubles. The hair will grow back so it is a process that needs to be maintained. Your regular groomer will usually check the ears and pluck if necessary. This one was definitely top of the list for hairiest ear awardsโ€ฆ. We had to sedate this patient for comfort of a full ear pluck and major flush !!

Some important information from our friends over at Central Veterinary Emergency. They service a large radius of central Victoria & are very busy providing 24hr care on the weekends & public holidays. Calling ahead (applies to any vet clinic) is common courtesy when your pet has had an emergency. Also be conscious about veterinary availability at one time & the need for immediate life saving treatment vs an ear infection or itchy skin. These can be seen by your regular vet on a week day & are non life threatening. Keep CVE services for pet Emergencies that need to be seen ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ›‘๐Ÿ“ž TRIAGE & Calling Ahead ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ›‘๐Ÿ“ž

Having an animal emergency can be a very stressful time and we understand the importance of rushing your pet into our clinic for emergency veterinary attention.

Please note, CVE operates on a 'Triage & Appointment' basis.

This means that patients will be seen by one of our Veterinarians in order of priority (similar to a human hospital emergency department), and clients are required to call ahead and book appointments where possible.

Upon arrival, patients are triaged by our Veterinary Nurses and the most critical patients (Priority 1) will be seen first.

Please understand that this can sometimes lead to unpredictable wait times.

Calling ahead allows our staff to expect your arrival and gives our staff the best opportunity to set up for your pet and their emergency.

If you're experiencing an animal emergency and require veterinary assistance please call us on 0413 898 331.

We thank you for your understanding.

Meet lucky Digger!

Lucky belongs to Mellisa our Monday/Tuesday receptionist ๐Ÿ’› She had a small growth on her lash line that was rubbing against her cornea causing some irritation. Irritation on the surface of the eye is very uncomfortable & can lead to ulcers on the corneal surface which are painful and problematic. Dr. Dean worked his magic and whipped it out & on recovery Lucky chilled with her mum rocking her space Martian visor to protect the surgery site ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘๏ธ๐Ÿถ

Meet the super sweet, beautiful Bonnie girl ๐Ÿ’œ

Bonnie was rushed into us after having a little incident during a trip in the car. Her loving owners noticed she was very sore on one of her legs, along with some scrapes and bumps so they wanted her checked.

We decided to do some X-rays of her hips & legs, after some heavy pain relief which is when we discovered that she had broken her pelvis.
After speaking with Bonnieโ€™s owners it was decided that the best course of action was to head into surgery and remove the leg on the side of her breaks. Bonnieโ€™s surgery went fantastically, performed by Dr. Sarah & Bonnie recovered so well taking everything in her stride (minus one of her hind legs ๐Ÿ˜„).
She went home the next day to her caring family who where very happy with the outcome & excited to get there girl home. We received an update at home & a follow up in the clinic, which showed us she is zooming along on her new adapted legs and has gone back to loving life as if nothing happened. What an absolute little trooper you are Bonnie girl.๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿถ
