🐾Reminder: Paralysis Ticks Are Still Around!🐾

This tiny paralysis tick was pulled off a patient today.
It could’ve easily gone unnoticed in the fur — but thankfully, it latched onto the eyelid, making it visible.

✅ We strongly recommend year-round parasite prevention
to protect your furry family members from these dangerous pests.

Stay vigilant, and check your pets daily!🪲

🦴🦴CASE STUDY TUESDAY🦴🦴

This 6-month-old puppy came to us with a suspected broken leg. Radiographs confirmed a fracture of both the tibia and fibula.

To repair the injury, Dr Fergus used a technique called External Skeletal Fixation (ESF). This method stabilises the fracture using pins inserted into the bone, which are then connected to an external frame outside the body.

📸 Photos 1 & 2: Radiographs showing the tibia and fibula fracture.
📸 Photo 3: The ESF hardware, including the connecting rod, half pins, and clamps.
📸 Photo 4: The pins in place, aligning the bone for healing.
📸 Photo 5: The ESF fully applied and stabilising the leg.
📸 Photo 6: A fantastic healing result, just before the pins were removed.

Thanks to this advanced technique and early intervention, this young pup is well on the road to a full recovery. 🐶❤️💪

It’s hard work coming to see Dr. Fergus 😜

These adorable pups were in for their first vaccination and microchipping.

💉Puppies and kittens should receive their first vaccination between 6–8 weeks of age. Cessnock council also require that they be microchipped before being sold or by the time they’re 12 weeks old.

Meet Peppa, our brave 3-year-old greyhound.

She came to Dr Fergus as an emergency after a dog altercation left her with a fractured rib and a serious “sucking chest wound,” where air was entering her chest instead of her lungs.

Our team acted fast—sealing the wound, taking over her breathing, and rushing her into surgery. Dr Fergus repaired the injury and re-inflated her lung, and Peppa was breathing on her own again in no time.

After 24 hours of close monitoring, Peppa headed home on strict rest.
At her follow-up two weeks later, she was healing beautifully.

Peppa is well on her way to a full recovery!

Molly is one lucky pup—with more than 9 lives!

She was rushed into the clinic after a game of chase with a snake ended in a bite to her paw.

Thanks to prompt treatment, including antivenom and a few days of care in hospital, Molly made a full recovery.🐍🐶
