Ekka saturday was all about the kids, both Evie and Kobi have worked so hard leading up to Ekka and their efforts paid off.

Evie had her game face on from the moment she was in the saddle, rode a lovely work out, nailed her diagonals and placed 3rd in her Rider class.

Ekka flu hit Kobi hard on Friday, he soldiered on for a 7th place in his Rider class. Thankfully the excitment of having his little friend Boston Martin from school also competing helped pull him through.

Thank you to all our friends and family who came to support and cheer on Kobi and Evie, they sure did us all proud and our little Pandora gave them both a lovely experience in the ring.

Our beautiful little Pandora having her first Ekka experience and we couldn’t be any more proud of her efforts in the ring, although not the judges choice on day 1 but Thursday is a new day with a different judge.

Banjo, Saxy and Swayze today flew the flag for Harmony Haflingers at the Queensland All Breeds Young Stock Show, all 3 presented beautifully in front of the judge to win Champion for their respective age group.

Australia definitely doesn’t have enough Haflingers, this breed is so versatile, trainable, beautifully natured and have alot of love to offer. Slow and steady is their motto I swear, they are absolute unicorn ponies 🦄

Dream is the perfect gentleman in every way, he adjusts to his riders ability. He has been ridden by complete beginners, campained by amature riders and showjumped at some of the busiest of Ag shows over 1.10/15 tracks. Recently gained IQ qualifers for the upcoming IQ State Championships with a 14yr old rider.

Dream recently went cross county schooling and jumped ditchs, drops, arrow heads etc all without hestitation and showing a lot of potential. With his big expessive movement, bold jump and sensible nature he would make someone a very serious Eventing mount.

He can be pulled out of the paddock after a spell and doesn’t require any work down.

6yr old Black Riding Pony/Tbred gelding 14.3hh

Quest is currently in paddock condition, in his winter woolies and light work but would not take long to bring back into show condition.

He has had one dressage start gaining 62% in Prep level and an EA Show horse start placing 3rd in his Childs Larhe Galloway class. He has jumped up to 70cms with potential to go higher and would make an ideal allrounder as he loves his job ans enjoys a variety of tasks.

Quest has personality plus and is a real character to have around the stable.

All shoeing, vaccinations, teeth etc are up to date.

JUMPING | The FEI Children’s Classic is an annual event organised by the FEI for children aged between 12 and 14 years of age. Children from a wide range of nations compete over the same courses in their home country aiming to qualify for the final.

There are four levels of competition: Gold, Silver and Bronze. The courses for the four competitions are the same for each category with the height of the obstacles increasing according to the level of the category. Gold has a maximum height of 1.20m, Silver 1.10m and Bronze 1m.

As the course plans are published on the FEI website the athletes are able to practice at home prior to the competition. From the results of the Gold competitions conducted through out the world 16 foreign athletes qualify for the final and join 16 host nation athletes to contest the final which is on borrowed horses supplied by the host country.

In the past Australia has been successful in having a number of athletes to travel to the final.

A lot of effort for only 1 class but we would do it all again tomorrow to see the smile and enjoyment on Kobi’s face. Our little showman loves stepping into the ring with his Pandora, she was an absolute angel pony all weekend for her first Royal Show 💞

The young and ever so stunning Haflinger c**t owned by Harmony Haflingers in for his 2nd prep under saddle. Being started correctly and with his trainable and willing nature it has made working with him very straight forward and rewarding. Looking forward to his dressage debut next year.

Big weekend at various competitions for Bespoke riders; 3 showjumpers and 5 show horses which included 5 new horse/rider combinations and 2 horses coming back from injury/illness.

A great day was had by all with plenty of ups and downs but valueable saddle time and competition experience was gained.

So proud of all our riders, we loved seeing you all out in the ring today enjoying your horses and having fun, offering encouragment and support to fellow team mates and competitors but most of all enjoying our sport and doing what we all love 💞

Read , let it sink in, then read again :

“No. 1. Get your tack and equipment just right, and then forget about it and concentrate on the horse.

No. 2. The horse is bigger than you are, and it should carry you. The quieter you sit, the easier this will be for the horse.

No. 3. The horse's engine is in the rear. Thus, you must ride your horse from behind, and not focus on the forehand simply because you can see it.

No. 4. It takes two to pull. Don't pull. Push.

No. 5. For your horse to be keen but submissive, it must be calm, straight and forward.

No. 6. When the horse isn`t straight, the hollow side is the difficult side.

No. 7. The inside rein controls the bending, the outside rein controls the speed.

No. 8. Never rest your hands on the horse's mouth. You make a contract with it: "You carry your head and I'll carry my hands."

No. 10. Once you've used an aid, put it back.

No. 11. You can exaggerate every virtue into a defect.

No. 12. Always carry a stick, then you will seldom need it.

No. 13. If you`ve given something a fair trial, and it still doesn't work, try something else—even the opposite.

No. 14. Know when to start and when to stop. Know when to resist and when to reward.

No. 15. If you're going to have a fight, you pick the time and place.

No. 16. What you can't accomplish in an hour should usually be put off until tomorrow.

No. 17. You can think your way out of many problems faster than you can ride your way out of them.

No. 18. When the horse jumps, you go with it, not the other way around.

No. 19. Don`t let over-jumping or dull routine erode the horse's desire to jump cleanly. It's hard to jump clear rounds if the horse isn't trying.

No. 20. Never give up until the rail hits the ground.

No. 21. Young horses are like children—give them a lot of love, but don't let them get away with anything.

No. 22. In practice, do things as perfectly as you can; in competition, do what you have to do.

No. 23. Never fight the oats.

No. 24. The harder you work, the luckier you get."

Horse 1 - Showjumper/Eventer
Chestnut gelding, tbred, 17hh, 11yr old
Extremely quiet, 3yrs on the jumping curcuit and happily jumping 1.10/15cm

Horse 2 - Allrounder
Brown gelding, stockhorse x, 16hh, 12yr old
Uncomplicated ride but gains his confidence through his rider.
Competed up to prelim dressage and 80/90 showjumping

Horse 3 - Allrounder
Black gelding, RP/Tbred, 14.2hh, 6yr old
Competed dressage and hacking, scored 65% in first start. Has started jumping and will make an ideal Interschool mount.

Horse 4 - Large Open Pony
Grey mare, RP/Welsh, 13.1hh, 6yr old
Newcomer eligible, first show inhand and went Supreme Led. Royal looks and movement.

PLEASE NOT AGAIN!!! 💧☔️🌧️
I know we are all praying for no more rain. 🙏🙏
Last time was emotionally traumatic. Drowned horses, panicking humans and midnight rescue missions.
But just incase it happens, here are some things I learned from last time.

🐴 HAVE A PLAN
Make sure you’ve got somewhere you can take your horse/s if you’re in a flood prone area. Please don’t wait to be rescued……
Better to over prepare than get stuck.

🚗 ROAD CLOSURES
If you don’t live with your horse make sure you know which roads flood over and make sure you’ve evacuated before this happens!

💧 WATER
Do not allow your horses to drink flood water. It’s full of pollutants, bugs and 💩 . and some horses became very unwell after last flood.
Add some molasses or electrolytes fresh water if you can. You may need to make a plan to put a full IBC in place if you’ll be cut off.

🐴 HAY
Stock up on square bales. Easier to move and won’t get wasted if they get wet.
Keep them easy to access and dry.
You’ll be feeding alot of hay if you’re flooded in.

🤠 SHAVINGS/MATS
If at all possible, try and create a dry standing area. Even if just to treat hooves, cuts or injuries.

⛑️HAVE SOME FIRST AID STUFF
Keep a stock of bute, bandages, sprays and wound dressings incase you need them. You might not be able to get a vet.

🦟BUGS!
This weather is a mozzie’s paradise.
Spray your horses at dusk at least, prevent viruses like Ross River Virus from infecting your horse.

🪰FLIES!
I like to keep fly masks on in this weather. Already this summer I’ve seen 5 nasty cases of habronema (summer sores) in the eyes 🤢

🐎SWOLLEN LEGS
If your horse is usually paddocked and used to walking a lot, they may be quite stationary during a flood. Make sure they don’t stock up and get swollen legs from standing still. Ice the legs and get them walking.

Good luck everyone! I know we are all hoping it won’t happen, but the predicted 1200mm of rain is making me nervous.
Better we are too pro active than the other way around.

Mares aren’t always well liked and for the same reasons strong women aren’t.

Opinionated? Those opinions are not without good cause and maybe you can't figure them out or maybe you just don’t like her opinion of you. Change it and she will always be on your side.

Stubborn? She just won’t let you bulldoze her. Treat her with respect and her resilience will be an asset to you.

Difficult? You just can’t handle her. You don’t have what it takes.

Stick with geldings then, and leave the mare for someone who understands her and appreciates the same qualities society has subtlety taught you not to like.

Here’s to mares, to strong women, and to those who CAN and DO appreciate them!

Another week means another show and Laidley Show it was. A cold start both morning but the show horses and showjumpers all had a successful weekend.

Remlap Pandora made her debut undersaddle and placed 2nd in her Maiden and winning her Novice pony class.

Kobi or I should say our “one eyed pirate” rode Pandora in his rider class and placed 2nd.

I also handed the reins back to Madelean on her beautiful mare Kennallywood Devotion aka Hannah, they are already becoming a great combination and with more ring/saddle time will become a very competitive combination and one to watch out for in the near future.

Lucy and Mystic Shadows Wildfire had 2 very lovely rounds but an unlucky rail in the jump off of the 90cm.

Scarlett and Animatrix having a faultless day to bring home 2nd place in the 90cm class.
