I live in red soil country & my chooks love to dust bathe in the soil.
This is why my lovely Light Suss*x look caramel coloured, but every year in Autumn, they moult their old feathers & grow new plumage.
Some of my flock have already moulted & have lovely new clean feathers!!🪶
