Giant Lizard Alert! – Komodo Dragons can grow up to 3 meters long and weigh over 70kg, making them the largest living lizard on the planet! πŸ’ͺ

Venomous Bite – Their bite isn’t just powerfulβ€”it’s venomous! The venom slows down prey by causing shock, blood loss, and even paralysis, making it easier for them to catch and eat. 😱

Master of Stealth – Despite their size, Komodo Dragons are expert hunters. They can sneak up on prey like a ninja, using their camouflage to stay hidden in the wild. πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

Super Sniffers – Their sense of smell is out of this world! Komodo Dragons have a keen sense of smell and use their forked tongues to "taste" the air, helping them track prey from miles away. πŸ‘ƒπŸ”

Lazy Hunters – Komodo Dragons don’t chase after their food. Instead, they wait patiently for prey to come to them. Talk about the ultimate "chill" hunter! πŸ›‹οΈ

Long Life – They can live up to 30 years in the wild and even longer in captivity, making them true survivors. ⏳

Nocturnal & Daytime Action – While they’re often active during the day, Komodo Dragons are also known to be night hunters. πŸŒ™

Fun and fascinating, right? Come visit our Komodo Dragon and see this living legend for yourself at Snakes Downunder! 🐍🌿

Did you know the iris of a green tree frog is a beautiful golden colour? πŸ‘€

Their skin also has antibacterial and antiviral protections and frogs were the first land animals with vocal cords! 🐸

Their diet includes spiders, crickets, lizards, other frogs and cockroaches and, when in captivity, they will even eat small mice 🐭

Did you know? 🦎

The blue tongue lizard has a β€œthird eye” on top of its head? It is a small hole leading down to its brain that it uses to work out when it’s night or day, and it helps regulate their body temperature πŸ‘οΈ

The reason for their blue tongues is so they can flick them out when threatened and scare off predators; bright colours in nature can often mean danger or poison. Blue tongues will make loud hissing sounds and can rear up in anger to chase off threats. They have stumpy legs and cannot rely on quickly running away from predators so scare tactics are its first line of defence. Another tactic it uses is its very powerful bite and habit of not letting go 😬

Have you ever seen a blue tongue in the wild?

Have you seen Taba, our Fijian Crested Iguana? 🦎
You can find her in our reptile house 🏠

These gorgeous reptiles prefer to live amongst dry forests and in coastal areas and will spend the majority of their time in the trees, rarely coming down to the ground. They perfectly camouflage amongst the trees with their vibrant, emerald green and black-outlined, white stripes. Crested iguanas are herbivorous, feeding on fruits, leaves, flowers and shoots πŸƒ

The crested iguana is endemic to Fiji. They were originally found throughout 14 Fijian islands, but, today are restricted to just three! Alarmingly, 98% of all remaining individuals (less than 6,000) are living on just one island 🏝️

🐨 Did you know koalas are born hairless, blind and without ears? πŸ‘€

A baby koala, or joey, is around 2cm long when they are born, they are furless and their eyes and ears are still developing (they look like a pink jellybean!).

Despite their lack of sight and hearing, joeys can use their instincts to climb into their mother's pouch where they spend the first 5-7 months of their lives 🐨
