We welcome 5th Year Veterinary Student Tilly, who is with us on her placement. Tilly is originally from Clare however, she and her family moved to the Adelaide Hills 10 years ago.
From a young age Tilly has always loved animals, which has led her to studying to become a vet. Only one more year to go! Once she graduates into the big wide world, her ideal workplace would be a rural mixed practice to see all creatures great and small with a particular emphasis on cattle.
We wish Tilly all the best for her last year at Vet School. We know she will be a great vet, and we've enjoyed having her with us.

In February 2025 Dr Louise will be running 50kms in the Tarawera Ultra Trail Race held in New Zealand. She is raising funds for a charity close to her heart RUN DIPG.

DIPG, or diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, is a particularly aggressive form of brain cancer that tragically claimed the life of Josie, the daughter of a close family friend. Witnessing the devastating impact of this disease first hand has motivated Louise to take action. She wants to honour Josie's memory and support other families affected by DIPG by raising awareness and research funds.

So she will be running 50kms in her 50th year and aims to raise $50,000.

If you have a moment to take the time to read her story and donate, she would be extremely grateful. Also if you could share this with your friends and family far and wide to help Louise get to her goal. Thank you

😺 Be like Barry.....

Barry came into Clinic today for his annual vaccinations. He took it all in his stride and enjoyed testing out our new seating in our Clinic waiting room.

Way to go Barry, you're a cool cat 😼

THERE IS A WINNER AMONGST US

Whilst we have been busy blabbing about the Jack Russell Race at the recent Clare Show, and talking up our contestants, Ollie and Phil.

There was a Winner amongst us!

Pictured here is Jetson, the Winner of the Dog Jumping Competition. He jumped an impressive 2.25m! He is pictured with the genetically blessed couple, Nurse Shemia and her FiancΓ© Tyson.

Congratulations Team Williams!

JACK RUSSELL RACE RESULTS

Apologies it has taken some time to post the results of the Jack Russell Race, Dr Louise and I are still getting over Ollie and Phil's defeat!
There were plenty of entrants on the day but only one winner. That honour was bestowed upon Winnie Meaney, followed by Tom Turner and then Paddy McHenry.
It was a tough race with Tom right beside Winnie until the last moment.
Well done to all who participated, it was hugely entertaining as the pictures will show.
Next year will be the 160th Anniversary of the Clare Show, the organisers are wanting to add some more events............. Maybe a Dachshund Dash πŸ€”

πŸ† Check out these prizes for the top three racers in tomorrows Jack Russell Race at the Clare Show. πŸ†
Generously donated by Dr Louise, who will also be the compere for the event, don't mind her Scottish accent.
Whilst Dr Louise also believes her dog Ollie will win (he has been training with Dr Louise in her quest to do the marathon next year), my dog Phil is a seasoned racer and has been visiting the showground recently to practice on his own. Either that or he is wanting to run away with carnival ride people πŸ€·β€
So if you have a Jack Russell, bring them along on Saturday to race against the CVVS lads. Who knows your superstar might win these great prizes!

Saturday 19th October, Clare Showground, 5pm entry time, 5.30pm racing starts. $10 entry

CONGRATULATIONS TO DR GILL

8 years ago a fresh faced locum vet rolled up on our door step, so impressed with her direct manner, knowledge and humour, Dr Louise asked her to come on board.

So here we are 8 years later, Dr Gill is an integral part of our team. She is our resident wildlife expert (except for snakes), a brilliant Veterinarian with a wealth of knowledge and willingness to think outside the square with all cases. A skilled surgeon and an excellent behavioural Vet, Dr Gill brings so much to the table.

We are so pleased to have her on our team. Congratulations!

🐍🐍The snake season has hit with a vengeance. 🐍🐍

This week we have seen 7 cases in 4 days! Most of the owners had seen their pets being bitten and drove straight to us, calling on the way to advise us of their arrival time. This allowed our team to get the Clinic prepared with the necessary treatment. Even Dr Hannah who is on maternity leave was able to help

We have added a handy reference guide on what to look for if you suspect or have seen your pet being bitten by a snake. Print it off and put it on your fridge, tell your family and house mates what to look for: https://cvvs.com.au/SnakeBite.aspx

Hopefully this weeks number of cases is extraordinary, however we suspect not.
* Keep your grass mown
* Cats indoors
* Dogs on leads when walking
* Phone immediately if you suspect your pet has been bitten
* If you need a vet afterhours, please phone Roseworthy Animal Hospital 08 8313 1999.

Today is Vet Nurse Appreciation Day.
We have the most amazing team of Veterinary Nurses, each are dedicated, caring, thoughtful, kind, at times hilarious, great story tellers, and the best huggers.
Without Vet Nurses the Veterinary Team would find life difficult in Surgeries, Consultations, Outcalls, and many more situations.
We are proud of our Team and we wish them a happy day, you deserve cake! πŸ’–πŸ’–

IgG testing in new born foals

We offer new born foal health assessments, in particular IgG blood tests. Why do we do this? Well the blood test is an indicator of the effective passive transfer of immunity from the mare via the colostrum. This test should be performed 24-48 hours since birth. If the test fails to meet the standard then the recommendation is that the foal should have a plasma transfusion.

This dear little filly was born yesterday and the IgG test clotted in less than a minute which is the ideal result for everyone involved. 😁

Here at CVVS we offer these services. Call the Clinic to make your appointment. Phone 1300 288 387
