FYI IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING ADOPTING A LABRADOODLE

As we all know by now, all the labradoodles from Tasmanian Labradoodles have been surrendered to the RSPCA and will be for adoption through the RSPCA Tasmania , North East Animal Sanctuary Tasmania or Brightside Farm Sanctuary

Before you rush off to adopt one of these dogs, please consider the lifetime expenses and responsibilities of keeping one of these dogs.

Labradoodles are high maintenance, they have a coat that requires daily brushing and combing, as well as a regular visit to a groomer every 6-10 weeks to be clipped to keep them from becoming matted, which can lead to a lot of serious health issues. The cost of a groomer, depending on the size, weight, condition of the coat and temperament of your dog can be from $70 - $150 every 6 -10 weeks for the rest of the dogs life. (12 - 14 years)
On top of this cost your dog will require vaccinations at a vet yearly which are currently around $120, teeth cleaning and care can cost in excess of $1000, plus any other medical care your dog may need. Labradoodles do tend to suffer with a number of health issues including allergies affecting their ears, skin and health, lots of them requiring special diets and /or medication. Hip displaysia and ruptured crutiate ligaments among other things. All of which can cost thousands of dollars in veterinary care.
On top of all this you have the expense of flea & tick prevention and of course the cost of daily food.
The dog will also need a daily walk, an adequate fenced yard and a lot of quality time spent being with your dog.

Over the years of being a groomer, I have had a lot of these dogs come to me, fully matted to the skin with owners that tell me they had no idea of the maintenance involved in owning one of these dogs. A lot of them say "if I had known what was involved, I would never have bought one. The breeder never told me "

These dogs are being rescued from a bad situation and are in a shocking state, please don't put them back into this neglected state because you cannot financially keep one of these dogs or don't have the time for it. It's not fair on the dog, they have already been through enough.
Please consider it carefully before putting your hand up to adopt.

"It's too cold to clip him" is what this dogs owner said to me.
If this dog had been groomed regularly throughout the year, he could have had a nice winter clip, keeping him warm and comfortable.
Instead he had to be shaved to the skin to free him from this torturous prison of matted hair, that was restricting his movement and his blood flow.
This is not being kind, it's neglect and it's cruelty. πŸ₯Ί

It's been rather busy with my beautiful regulars 😊 but I do have a few spots available. New customers welcome.

Tasmanian labradoodles have now closed and surrendered all their dogs to rescues. They need foster homes and help financially.
If you can help please contact RSPCA Tasmania or my good friends at North East Animal Sanctuary Tasmania or simply share this post to find the help they need.
Thank you

******Holy moly guys. We were NOT expecting the response we have gotten. We need to work through all the potential fosters/adopters so please note we do not need anymore offers at this point in time. You guys rock!*****

Hi NEASTers. The cats out of the bag - or in this case, the dogs are outta the farm. We need your help. You've probably now heard that the RSPCA have managed to get Tas Labradoodles to surrender all of their dogs, and stop them from breeding again. YAY! BEST NEWS! Once we found out that RSPCA were able to resolve this issue for once and for all, NEAST quickly put our hands up to assist the RSPCA and will be taking on a number of these dogs, and all of their associated costs. Megan has been desperately scrabbling for the last week to set up for these cuties, gathering coats, food, kennels, you name it. But we really do need your help. So how can you help?
* As we are funding the ones we take on, we really could use financial support - the RSPCA have estimated each dog coming into care will cost $1000 per animal to vet check, groom, feed, complete outstanding vet work etc. We are taking our first six this coming Friday.
* These adorable dogs will need appropriate homes, so we are happy to start taking enquiries shortly. Please keep in mind at this stage we do not know size, colour or s*x, only that they are coming in.
* Appropriate toys and dog coats are helpful
* Fosters! Ideally we want foster to adopt homes, as this minimises the disruption for the dogs. Of course, there will be occasions where a dog would benefit from a foster home whist it waits for its forever home so please don't be put off if you're not keen to adopt one long term but still want to help.
* please be patient with us going forward. We work, study, run households and of course NEAST. Things are about to get very hectic!

Gorgeous Banjo for his regular groom, Henry for his soak bath and comfort groom and Schnauzer Rosie who has been traumatised in her previous home and screams at the slightest touch anywhere near her back end, legs or tail, making her almost impossible to groom. But I'm working on her and slowly gaining her confidence. ❀

Gorgeous regular Rosie keeping warm with her winter clip.
Grooming throughout winter is important to keep your dogs coat clean, knot free and healthy.
If your dog is groomed regularly and kept in good condition, your dog can keep a nice winter length coat with each clip.

In 2018 my dog Archie died of lymphoma, a cancer linked to glyphosate.

I remember in his final weeks we were at a local park and the shire rocked up and started spraying glyphosate while we were there. No signs, and they didn’t ask us to vacate the park. They suffered the brunt of my wrath that day.

I noticed often how the shire would put a few signs around a park, spray glyphosate, then immediately remove the signs. Any dog owners arriving immediately after, throwing a ball for their dog in glyphosate-soaked grass, were completely unaware.

A neighbouring shire had ceased to use such chemicals, opting for safer alternatives at a higher cost. A cost worth paying in my opinion, as my shire would rather keep costs down at the detriment of the dogs we love.

This photo was sourced from Rodney Habib, and it is a very worthwhile risk we should be aware of in Australia.
