STRAY CATS!
We have another stray cat. This is a nice big grey male desexed cat. No microchip.
We are in a very different situation with cats. We are unable to continue taking in all the stray cats.
- We are a veterinary hospital for sick pets, having stray cats here not only stresses out our hospitalised patients but also potentially spreads disease.
- We are in peak tick season and simply do not have the capacity to house stray cats, let alone pay staff to look after them and feed them.
- There is currently no law or organisation regarding stray cats. There is no pound or shelter who will take cats. We have been advised that cats are allowed to roam and strays should be returned to where they are found. We disagree with this, however cannot take all the stray cats.
- Any un microchipped cat will be rehomed by us if we are unable to locate the owner after advertising as found for a few days.
-It is every cat owners responsibility to microchip their cats, so that if the cat strays or wanders while owners are away, we can easily re unite them. Without a microchip, it is basically impossible to do so.
Does anyone own this cat?
He will be rehomed on Monday if we cannot locate his owner.

PLEASE PUT TICK PREVENTION ON YOUR DOGS AND CATS!
We have seen so many tick paralysis cases in the last couple of weeks, they are filling our cages. We currently have 6 patients in hospital suffering with tick paralysis. There is no guarantee we can save your pet if they get tick paralysis. The cost to treat is much greater than the cost of prevention. The cost of prevention can be as little as $20 a month. There are many options available. This season seems to be even worse than previous years, and recovery seems to be taking much longer. Brachycephalic breeds such as pugs, bulldogs, French bulldogs are 50% more likely to pass away due to airway complications. They must be on tick prevention 100% of the time. Ticks can be carried in by wildlife and blown in with the wind. Even if you have never had a tick problem in the past, there is a high chance you will now. We can not urge you enough to choose prevention rather than treatment. We don’t want to see your pet suffer. Please call us with any questions.
Thank you.

Just a reminder, the tick season is not over!
We strongly urge all dog and cat owners to keep up to date with tick prevention all year round. Although not typically ‘tick season’ we are still experiencing an influx of tick paralysis cases in our patients. We tend to have ticks all year round in our area, especially with the warm humid weather, so please continue with tick prevention. We have many different prevention options available from as little as $20 per month.
Please call us for advice on what product would be best for your pet.
