MEET TILLY!

Tilly visited us earlier this month for a ‘Twice For Life’ senior health check and blood test. Her owner reported that she was fussy with her food but otherwise seemed well. Tilly’s blood results came back showing elevated liver parameters. Tilly had an ultrasound to investigate the cause for these elevated parameters. The ultrasound showed that Tilly had a large mass attached to the left caudal lobe of her liver. 15cm in size, to be exact. Today Tilly had a liver lobectomy procedure to remove the tumour and part of the liver where the mass attached to. Tilly is 1kg lighter thanks to the removal of the tumour. Tilly was a very brave girl and is recovering well. We look forward to seeing her happy face around the clinic 🥰

Spring is finally near and as we transition out of the cold winter months, it's essential to ensure our furry friends are ready to embrace the change.

💦 Spring clean their fur with a nice lukewarm bath and dog-friendly shampoo.
🎀 Brush your pet's coat regularly to help remove loose hair from their winter coat, prevent matting, and keep their fur healthy and shiny.
✨ Clean their ears, trim their nails and check their paw pads for dry spots or fur that might need to be trimmed.
🪲Keep up-to-date with flea and tick protection.

Remember, grooming is a great opportunity to bond with your furry friend. Here’s to a fantastic spring filled with lots of tail wags and adventures!

🐾 Introducing Your New Cat to Your Resident Cat 🐾

Adding a new feline family member is exciting but introducing them to your current cat requires patience and careful planning to ensure a smooth transition. Here are some tips to help them become fast friends:

1. Gradual Introduction:
🐱 Start by keeping the new cat in a separate room with all their essentials (bed, litter box, food, water). Allow them to adjust to their new environment for a few days to reduce stress.

2. Scent Exchange:
👃 Swap bedding or toys between the cats so they can become familiar with each other's scents before meeting face-to-face.

3. Controlled Meetings:
👀 After a few days, introduce the cats through a cracked door or baby gate. This allows them to see and smell each other without direct contact.

4. Positive Reinforcement:
🥰 Reward good behaviour with treats or praise during interactions to create positive associations.

5. Supervised Playtime:
🐾 Once they seem comfortable, allow short, supervised play sessions together. Watch for signs of aggression or stress and intervene if necessary.

6. Patience is Key:
⏳ Give them time to adjust to each other's presence and personalities. Some cats may take longer to accept a new companion than others.

By following these steps and allowing your cats to adjust at their own pace, you can help foster a harmonious relationship between your new and resident feline friends. 🐱💕 Have you introduced cats before? Share your tips with us!

Is Your Dog Licking Their Paws? Here’s Why!

Persistent paw licking can signal an underlying issue. Here are common reasons:
🐾Allergies: Food, pollen, mold, or cleaning products can cause itchy paws.
Injury or Pain: Cuts, splinters, or sores may lead to focused licking.
🐾Parasites: Fleas, ticks, or mites can irritate the skin.
🐾Infections: Bacterial or fungal infections cause itching and discomfort.
🐾Anxiety or Boredom: Dogs lick to self-soothe; ensure they get exercise and mental stimulation.
🐾Dermatitis: Irritants like chemicals or salt can cause skin issues.

If your dog is licking their paws excessively, it's time to consult with one of our vets.

Schedule an appointment today to get the right diagnosis and treatment. Your furry friend's health and happiness is our top priority! 🐶❤️

Dogs have remarkable abilities to sense various aspects of human behaviour and physiology. Here are three amazing things they can detect:

1. Emotional State: Dogs are highly attuned to human emotions and can often sense when their owners are feeling sad, anxious, or stressed.
2. Health Conditions: Dogs possess an incredible sense of smell, which allows them to detect subtle changes in human body chemistry. They can sniff out certain health conditions, including hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) in people with diabetes, certain types of cancer, and even impending seizures.
3. Intentions and Trustworthiness: Dogs are adept at reading human body language and can often sense a person's intentions. They can pick up on cues such as posture, facial expressions, and vocal tone to gauge whether someone is friendly, trustworthy, or potentially threatening.

Overall, dogs' remarkable sensitivity to human emotions, health, and intentions underscores the unique bond between humans and their canine companions.

As your cat ages, their needs evolve. Here are our top tips for taking care of your cat during their senior years:

🥣 Food & Water: Ensure seniors eat and drink enough. Offer small, frequent meals and accessible water.
😸 Playtime: Keep them active with gentle play, improving muscle tone and circulation.
😴 Sleeping: Aging cats tend to sleep more. Provide cosy bedding in warm, draft-free spot and monitor any changes in sleeping patterns.
🩺 Regular Check-ups: Health exams, including dental checks, every six months catch issues early.

By recognising and addressing the specific needs of senior cats, you can ensure they enjoy a comfortable and fulfilling life in their later years.
