This training video cracks me up. I was working on Saffi's drop stay and making big crazy distracting movements to test if she could stay on her mat.
As I'm hopping around the yard, I look up at the neighbour's roof and there's a workman cleaning out the gutters. He must have thought I was a total weirdo! ๐ Well, he would be right. Crazy dog lady here, watch me wiggle!
When we're out on a walk, it's great to look at things from your dog's perspective.
Dogs are scavengers, it's their life mission and the moment we start our walk with them, they are keen to explore, forage and learn.
Preventing them from doing exploring on lead increases physical and mental stress, keeps them from building good social skills and creates confusion and tension within the human-dog relationship.
P.S. I filmed this video at the start of the year hence the 'Happy New Year!'.

Who needs straight lines? Add some dizzy to you day!
๐พ The Handling Game
Handling doesn't have to be a head war with your dog. By playing the handling game you can build up to your dog co-operating when things like ears and paws need attention.
Astra and Saffi currently have skin and ear infections that need weekly care and Saffi being a cavoodle, haircuts are always on the agenda!
If you have a particular issue (trimming, ears, teeth, sensitive body part) your dog has trouble with, give me DM buzz and I'll send you the starting steps to teaching this fun game to your dog!

โCop copโ is a trick I taught Astra years ago. Itโs a fun behaviour that requires the dog to balance on your feet as you walk.
Of course, it never looks this fancy in the beginning. To start with all Iโm doing with Saffi is encouraging her to touch my foot with her paw as I lure her forward with a treat. Baby steps!!

Teaching Saffi, the Blonde Sheep, that thereโs a left and right โThroughโ jump depending on which leg I bend. Astra of course is a big sis pro at this!
There's still time to book in some end of year training and bodywork session with me. Let's work on your animal's problem behaviour, stress, trauma and health issues!
Energy drives everything including behaviour. If we want different behaviour from our animals, we need different energy.
When it comes to treats, size matters and maybe not in the way you think.
High reinforcement (meaning frequent treat delivery in quick succession) creates an eager learner and the size matters little to the learner - just keep it coming! Whereas a big treat is often gone in one quick gulp and the fun is over red rover. Boo!
There's nothing quite like dogs + nature. ๐
