The Pup Cup Dog Grooming Competition is an event that spreads opportunity to unite professional dog groomers, dog enthusiasts and those with domestic animals that consider them part of the family. We have two groovy events for 2023 featuring a Dog Grooming Competition for professional dog groomers and dog show exhibitors.

Many have asked me over the years - What is the purpose of this event or what direction am I taking this event to?

The Pup Cup is many things and is going to continue to become many things.

It is a friendly competition where the focus is to provide a place for networking, education and professional growth. It roots for everyone and every business that is involved.

If I could describe the event as a person.
That would be Meagan Lidbetter.

Introducing Megs! She's located in Mackay, QLD and is a proud mother, partner, business owner, fantastic boss, entrepreneur and keen competitor.
She has been to every Pup Cup since 2017 along with attending and supporting other Australian events.

She tests herself by grooming in a number of classes and grows from every competition she attends. Her drive, determination, kindness and friendship to everyone, is what the Pup Cup spirit is all about.

All our competitors received goodie bags which was from a collection of our wonderful sponsors. Megs added a bag of her new line of treats from Pamper Paws. If you're after a wonderful range of treats to stock in your shops or to feed your pets, than look no further!

A shout out and thank you to the very humble Jenna.
I threw her in the deep end to assist with our Model Dog JNR section. Thank you for making our up and coming stylists feel welcome in our new class and for being an extra pair of hands for us over the weekend.

Also a very big thank you to all those who helped pack up, sweep up and reset the club at the end of the day. We greatly appreciated all your help!

The Pup Cup Cairns was enjoyed by so many this weekend. It wouldn't of been possible without the dedication and hard work of Tara Tinsey.

Due to personal constraints, I haven't been able to give my full attention to this event. So Tara has been the back bone with organising this one!
Congratulations Tara for successfully giving Far North Queensland stylists and dog show exhibitors a cracking event. You have provided multiple opportunities to those who haven't been offered them ever before. Gathering groomers from all over the country!
This event was warm in temperature and in temperament as we saw friendships forming.

Thank you to our humble judges Michelle Weber (Vic) and Miharu Goodridge (QLD) for your valuable feedback in which all of our competitors can use on their professional development journeys.

All of you gave your time for a free workshop in which will no doubt enrich our competitors skill sets.

Thank you to all of our wonderful stallholders who gave our Cairns spectators, dog show exhibitors and competitors a fantastic range of specials and goodies to purchase over the event.

This was a huge task bringing stock to Far North Queensland and giving others the opportunity to see and touch products - a pure luxury when many only get the chance to view things online.

Tara Tinsey and I were so humbled for your travels and time over the weekend and hope you all enjoyed Pup Cup Cairns.

Here at the Pup Cup we celebrate all experience levels and hope our brand new competitors had a wonderful time.

We have a seperate line up to encourage our Novice competitors as we believe they deserve the extra awards. It can be daunting stepping into the ring with under two years experience.

Groomer Nation proudly sponsored these awards because they remember what it was like being new!
Their whole range of online learning can assist our novice, open and master level competitors. As there is always something to learn. The Groomer Nation community shares, cares, advises and celebrates all things grooming and the evolving groomer lifestyle.

We had a variety of goodies added to the prize pool to these amazing new groomers from OZ Grooming World and DGS Imports. Thank you for the added bonus' and for spoiling our winners.

What a stunning bunch of groomers and doggies we had in our Double Coat Class.
This was a great introduction and displayed a variety of lovely breeds. Showcasing that all dogs require grooming.

These wonderful groomers had a ball in our Traditional Model Class this morning.
This class was split into two sections of Level A (those who had not competed in model dog prior) and Level B (those who have competed in model dog at other events).

Here we have two Poodles, two Schnauzers, a Portuguese Water Dog and an Airedale Terrier.

All our stylists placed and took home fantastic goodies from DGS Imports.
Thank you so much for your support and sponsoring our Model Dog Section.

Our final section is under way at Cairns City Kennel Club.

We have our Traditional Model Dog class in process where groomers can style their models into any purebred breed trim recognised in the Australian National Kennel Council.

Thank you to DGS Imports for sponsoring our first model class where groomers have to complete their work in the ring. In previous years we have allowed contestants to pre do their subjects and then present them.
These models may look easy to work with - but the texture and thickness of these model dogs are quite the chore to work with.

We also have another first for the Pup Cup. The Double Coat Class!
Celebrating all types of coats, the double coat is one that requires the most frequent of care to avoid hair all over ones home.
Lovely breeds such as a Border Collie, Finnish Lapphund, Pomeranians and a Japanese Spitz are on show and being groomed to their breed standard.

What a cracker of an afternoon!

Onto our afternoon section consisting of Poodle, Commercial Clip and the Hand Strip Classes.

For our Poodle class we permit any poodle or modified trim for this section. The Commercial Clip class features purebreds that are to be clipped into their breed pattern and the Hand Strip class features breeds that are traditionally carded or have their coat manually removed without the use of clippers on their jackets. Minimal clipping on our hand strip dogs are permitted but must still conform to the conformation ring standard.

We have a lovely variety of purebreds featuring a toy and standard Poodle, Scottish Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, Schnauzer, Bichon Frise, American Cocker Spaniel and English Cocker Spaniels.

With groomers participating from all over Australia.

Hosting our first ever kids class was a heck load of fun!

Our winners were 9, 11 and 15 years of age. They demonstrated great concentration, safe scissor skills and wonderful attitudes.

😍😍😍 The goodies at the Ashley Craig Grooming Australia stall had our hearts singing 🎶

Where else in the world would we have a gorgeous backdrop like this!? It's perfect weather and a perfect day for a dog grooming competition on the Coffs Coast. A very big thank you to Jetty Beach House for having us and spoiling all of our stallholders, competitors and spectators with coffee that makes your heart sing, delicious food and yummy cocktails to come!

The Pup Cup Dog Grooming Competition & Expo is the first of its kind, uniting professional dog groomers, dog enthusiasts and those with domestic animals that consider them part of the family. The event will feature a Dog Grooming Competition for professional dog groomers, Expo and Coffs Harbour District Kennel Club Show. The event is free entry for the public and their pooches to attend, shop, adore and admire! With keen interest from local, interstate and international groomers the Pup Cup will not be an event to miss! The Expo will service those seeking retail relief and information stalls from community and not-for- profit groups will also make up the show floor. GET THOSE TAILS WAGGING!
