Hair Loss - Preventing it and/or Dealing with It by Frances Fuller
Hair loss can be attributed to a number of causes. Some of these can be lack of sufficient vitamins and minerals, inadequate sleep, high stress levels and hormones. No matter what the cause, it is challenging when it happens to YOU!
It may help to think of it as a signal that something is not balanced in the body. If we approach it in this manner, we may more easily achieve the glorious thick and shiny mane we desire.
What’s in your shampoo and other hair products?
There are many chemicals in most shampoos, conditioners, and other hair products which may give a temporary appearance of shiny full hair, but which may actually dry the hair and irritate the scalp. Unfortunately, it is NOT necessary for all ingredients to be printed on the label! (This was a real surprise for me when I discovered it a few years ago!) In addition, the products you are using may be marketed as “natural” or “organic”, but these words have nor regulatory board governing their use.
Would you “eat your shampoo”?
Gary Young, founder of Young Living Essential Oils asked that question during a training class in early 2000. We all laughed. He said you can eat his shampoo – and continued by saying that “you may not like the taste, but it could be the best thing you put I your body all day!” His point is that there is nothing that would harm you in the Young Living shampoo. Can the same be said for YOURS?
Eliminating of chemicals that can contribute to hair loss is an easy first step. This may be all that is necessary for some.
Are your vitamins and minerals being absorbed?
Many of us make a decision to “become healthier” and begin to take supplements – but we do not seem to be feeling and looking better. This could be that the supplements are not being absorbed by the body. Often there are “fillers” in supplements that inhibit the body’s absorption rate, so the supplements are actually eliminated from the body rather than being absorbed. In addition, some vitamins require the ratio to be present in order to be readily utilized by the body. In other words, while the ingredients may be present, they do not assist us.
When the body receives the nutrients it needs in a form that can be absorbed, you will be amazed at the results.
Young Living’s:
SULFURZYME offers pure organic sulfur
BALANCE COMPLETE is a great way to ensure enough protein in the diet.
NINGXIA RED is high in anti-oxidants which can readily be used by the body.
NEW PRODUCT:
The new MIRAH HAIR OIL is amazing! I use 2 drops on damp hair and massage into scalp. It does not make my hair oily. (I was amazed as I have fine oily hair.)
What can you do about stress?
Hummm, this is a big deal! While most of us cannot “eliminate stress” from our lives, we can reduce the impact of stress on the body. Meditation, essential oils, breathing (as in Yoga practices), and exercise can greatly assist. Just taking a few minutes each day may reduce stressors that can lead to serious diseases – and hair loss.
Essential Oils
ALL Therapeutic Grade essential oils have the ability to oxygenate the cells of the body – and every single cell needs adequate oxygen to be healthy. In addition, many essential oils are widely used for their calming effect – so they can assist in both ways at once!
I have personally noted that LAVENDER, CEDARWOOD, and YLANG YLANG are especially effective both for preventing and alleviating hair loss as well as for reducing stress. I massage 2-3 drops of ONE of the oils into the scalp morning and evening. Essential oils do NOT make the hair greasy as it is only when combined with vegetable oil that a greasy feeling would be present.
NOTE: Lavender essential oil is great for relaxing you so you can sleep better!
There are several recipes in the Essential Oils Desk Reference which could be helpful:
Blend #1
10 drops cedarwood
8 drops rosemary
10 drops sandalwood
10 drops lavender
Blend #2
3 drops rosemary
5 drops lavender
4 drops cypress
2 drops clary sage
2 drops juniper
Add 10 drops of either of the above blends to 1 teaspoon fractionated coconut oil and massage into scalp at night before bed. Some have found it helpful to alternate the blends.
Don’t despair – your “mane aggravation” can be your “crowning glory”!!!
