Our jobs as vets is never easy. This is an X-ray of a dog with bone cancer which can be seen in the moth-eaten part of the bone.

Unfortunately, the prognosis for this fur baby is not good. Although our pets’ lives are never long enough, they’ll be forever loved 💙

Another common problem that we see with French Bulldogs is a malformation of their thoracic vertebrae (a section of their spine).

This can lead to a compression on their spinal cord leading to weakness in their limbs, incontinence issues and hind leg muscle atrophy.

THE IMPORTANCE OF ANTIBIOTICS

When prescribed antibiotics, it’s important to complete the entire course prescribed. This goes for both people and pets.

This is an ear swab from a dog with a chronic ear infection. The antibiotics were used intermittently and courses of treatment weren’t complete. These bacteria are extremely unusual and result in a particularly smelly ear infection 🤢

“I am sure my dog knows what NOT to eat”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. We often hear from clients that their dogs would know not to eat something. However, if this were true, we wouldn’t need to remove foreign bodies from dog stomachs.

In this case, the poor pup swallowed a pin which can be seen as the linear object in the stomach. This causes a huge risk for bowel perforation with subsequent peritonitis, often resulting in death.

We're so glad that Tiger's ferocious appetite is back 😻

Thanks so much to Dr Sally for fitting my Tiger in this morning. My little bubba didn't eat dinner last night, and then no 3:30am zoomies or brekkie. I knew something wasn't right. He has an ulcerated burnt tongue. I have no idea what he could have licked. 😪 He had an antibiotic injection and has pain killers for the next week. Drop him home goes straight to his food tower and starts eating! 🙄🤷🏽‍♀️

Studies show that veterinarians are FOUR times more likely to take their own life compared to the general population. Dealing with difficult clients and working long hours are reported to be some of the most common causes of declining mental health in vets.

We had a patient that came in that was losing weight but the abdomen seemed very full and hard. When looking at the X-ray, there are several discrete masses that are evident in the chest which is highly suggestive of a metastasis of a malignant mass from the abdomen.

We had a bearded dragon that came in with a spinal fracture. The good news is that lizards and snakes cope reasonably well and can make a complete recovery from spinal fractures if they are treated early.
