Our expert staff offers FREE PET HEALTH CHECKS at our PET HEALTH CENTRE which is a six-point pet health check that will conclude with an overview of your pet’s health. Topics include nutrition, weight, skin, joint mobility, dental health and behaviour. Our experienced and highly trained staff are pet experts and can also refer pet owners to local vets. Appointments are available every day. Call to make an appointment. In addition to these services, Brontosaurus also offers dog washing, nail clipping, aquarium maintenance, puppy preschool and dog training. The shop has one of the largest pet retailers in the Coffs Harbour Region and holds a great collection of aquarium products, pet foods, reptile products, reptile food, and various small animal needs. You can also meet your new furry or feathered family member at Brontosaurus. Puppies, kittens, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, rats, and fish are all available for adoption! Brontosaurus works with a local rescue group and has Rescue Kittens/Cats and Rescue Dogs/Puppies up for adoption in shop. 🐾Fun Fact If you have a dog, you might notice that their ears move around a lot. They actually have around 18 muscles responsible for moving their ears. These help them to change the direction of their ears slightly to hear noises around them better, and play a really big part in telling us how our dogs are feeling.

A lot of a dog’s body language is expressed through what their ears are doing so a dog’s ears are vital in helping them communicate both with us and other dogs.🐾

Guinea pigs eating their own faeces can be an alarming sight to see, but don't worry, it's completely normal.

The little balls of fluff will sometimes eat their own faeces to maximise the nutrients they get from their food.

The technical term for this practice is coprophagy and guinea pigs perform it to help keep balance in their diet. You will notice this p**p (known as caecotrophs) will look different to their standard dry poo pellets. This is because they are digested differently to have the available nutrients for the second round of digestion.

So, if you ever see your guinea pig eating their own p**p, don’t worry, they’re just topping up their diet.

Keep those pearly whites shining! Here are some tips on brushing your pet's teeth:

Introduce a brushing program gradually and early; training may take several days or weeks.

First, dip your finger into beef bouillon for a dog or tuna water for a cat, and rub your finger over the pet's mouth and teeth.

Make these initial sessions brief and positive.

Introduce gauze on your finger with the same beef or tuna flavour and begin rubbing the teeth in a circular motion.

Before graduating to a soft-bristle toothbrush, put a small amount of toothpaste specifically designed for pets on your finger and allow the pet to taste it.

Finally, apply a small dab of pet toothpaste on a moist toothbrush and allow your pet to lick the bristles. Begin brushing gently at a 45 degree angle away from the gum line.

Please note: toothpaste designed for people contains ingredients that may upset your pet's stomach.

Your pet's dental health is key to their overall well-being. 🦷🐾
