☀️ Summer starts tomorrow… and the heat is already here! ☀️
With the warm weather ramping up, it’s so important to keep our pets safe. Dogs and cats can overheat much faster than we realise and heat stroke can become life threatening very quickly.

Here’s how to help your pets stay cool and comfortable as the temperatures climb:

🧊💦Plenty of cool, fresh water
Top it up through the day. Add ice blocks for an extra chill.

🏠Keep them indoors during the hottest parts of the day
Air con or a fan makes a huge difference. If they’re outside, they must have deep shade and good airflow.

🥾🚷Avoid midday exercise
Walks should be early morning or late evening only. Hot footpaths can burn paws, if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for them.

🪭💦Cooling tricks
Use damp towels to lie on, frozen treats, or even a light mist of water on paws and belly to help bring their temperature down.

🚗Never leave pets in cars..even for a minute
Temperatures rise dangerously fast, even with windows down.

🪮Grooming
Regular brushing helps with airflow, but avoid shaving double coated breeds as their coat protects them from the heat.

🚨 Signs of heat stress to watch for:

These need urgent attention:

🔸 Excessive, rapid panting
🔸 Drooling or foaming
🔸 Bright red or very pale gums
🔸 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🔸 Wobbliness, weakness, collapse
🔸 Glazed eyes or sudden lethargy
🔸 Difficulty breathing

If you notice any of these signs, please call us straightaway: heat stroke is an emergency.

💛 We’re here to help your pets stay safe and happy all summer long.

We’re still seeing a high number of tick paralysis cases with the warm humid weather and recent rain. Ticks are out and active and even pets who don’t wander far can be affected.

Please make sure your pets are up to date with tick prevention and that you’re checking them over daily. Running your hands through their coat from nose to tail can help you find a tick early. 🔍

Some early signs of tick paralysis include:
• Mild weakness or wobbliness
• Standing but struggling to walk
• A change in their bark or meow
• Trouble swallowing
• Fast or laboured breathing
• Vomiting or retching

If you find a paralysis tick on your pet or notice any of these symptoms please bring them straight to the vet. Tick paralysis can progress quickly and early treatment gives pets the best chance of recovery.

Stay safe and give your pets an extra cuddle from us today 🫶🏼🐾

She enjoyed her morning cuppa with Nurse Carli so if there was a tiny delay answering the phones, you know who to blame 🤭🥰

Every year at 11am on 11 November - the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we take a moment of silence to honour the men, women and animals who have served in, those who have perished in, all wars and peacekeeping operations.

We will remember them. Lest we forget. ❤️ . Not our original image 📸
